Description

Virtuoso wordplay, irresistible rhythm, and laugh-out-loud humor abound in the first picture book by the one and only "Weird Al" Yankovic. But Coward’s ironic lyrics seem even more relevant today when the traditional values of adulthood, self-control, self-sufficiency and the willingness to take responsibility have become sources of angst rather than a desirable, if difficult, end. So as you can imagine the stories of teenage dreams, hopes, and hormones were particularly haunting knowing what was to come next.

I’m absolutely delighted to welcome Faithful+Gould to our collaborative team, made up of organisations and individuals from across the industry who are all working together to promote the industry to the next generation.Readers will recognize themselves in these stories—some of the content is very specific to time, place, and culture, but much of it is universal to the young person’s experience—hopes and dreams for the future, struggles with school and parents, crushes, attempts to forge an identity, friendships made and broken. These are the personal stories of a handful of Eastern European Jewish teenagers who submitted their memoirs as part of a writing contest—right before Hitler’s armies invaded and laid waste to so much life and culture. Also a massive thank you to Paul Broadbent RIBA FRICS MCIOB for making me aware of it in the first place. The essays were part of a contest that was of course never judged because of the events that soon came after. The book takes them through the journey of twins Harry and Amy, who are considering their future careers as part of their school careers day competition.

When our librarians book committee was reading it aloud to consider it for our book list, we were in tears of laughter by the third page and knew it was going at the top of our list. She is adept at drawing out her subjects and getting an authentic inside track on their emotional vicissitudes. After all, what child doesn’t want to imagine an adulthood where they “eat sweets every day on the way to work”?The book is perfect for building confidence in reading with only 28 words most of which are simple words. The illustrations are successful in making a person want to turn the page since every idea Billy has just seems to get sillier and sillier and the illustrations show this perfectly. She takes her skills as a journalist and what she has learned about listening to explore the vexed question of what becoming a mature adult personality might entail, and why achieving it has become such a trial and a puzzlement for so many today, herself included.

That this book exists is a miracle: originally written for a contest in 1930s Eastern Europe (in what is now Poland and Lithuania), these six essays were among hundreds hidden from the Nazis multiple times and eventually discovered in a church organ in 2017. More impressive, though, is the message of the book: that a person can do anything with his life and doesn't necessarily have to know what that thing (or those things) will be at the age of 8. The playful verse by Al Yankovic (better known as music parody king Weird Al) is accompanied by colorful pen and watercolor illustrations by Wes Hargis. I think maybe I've been particularly emotional lately because I have been tearing up a lot while reading, an out of the ordinary occurrence for me.I'm amazed that someone as deeply thoughtful, snarky, and creative as Tim Minchin could have written such an utterly uninspired, basic, uninteresting book for children. The illustrations are likewise appealing, depicting children in the act of doing all these fun, "grown-up" things. This sweet book with just a few lines per page is a gently, lightly humorous read perfect for Preschool- first grade. I Can Paint – BookBot early reader - A fun rhyming book for young children and a perfect early reader. The text of this sweet picture-book is inspired by Tim Minchin's song, When I Grow Up, composed as part of his Matilda: The Musical, and is paired with lovely artwork from illustrator Steve Antony.

This was an interesting book about 6 lost stories from Yiddish teenagers in Eastern Europe in the late 1930s They entered a contest with a prize of 150 zlotys. Disclosure: The author received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher through the Goodreads giveaway program.I would start by selecting a few vocabulary words, and as a class, we would go through the following worksheet together. And the recovery and, hopefully, presentation of more of these autobiographies can only do more good than bad. Told in Seuss-like rhyme, this is a clever, fun, well-illustrated and entertaining book for both kids and adults.
