About this deal

Genestealer Cult: The Genestealer Cult is a faction in the Warhammer 40K universe known for their hybrid nature, combining human and alien elements. They often use leather, fur and other organic materials in their armor and clothing. The Doombull Brown paint would be ideal for painting the leather, fur and other organic materials that are used on their armor and weapons. Pendulin’s Shadowkeepers scheme can be found in a separate article – How to Paint Everything: Adeptus Custodes Shadowkeepers.

I layered RMS Polished Bone but only on the skull of the cheast eagle, then highlighted the whole chest eagle with Vallejo Model Color White [ White Scar, but VMC White is my favourite white when it comes to coverage]. For Obi-Wan’s face I used my standard Caucasian Flesh recipe. It uses three colors: Citadel Doombull Brown, Reaper Tanned Flesh, and Citadel Flayed One Flesh. This is a multistep process that doesn’t take as long as it sounds, and results in nice smooth skin if you take your time. Coat D'Arms match the OLD citadel colours (pre-1992) so there might be some difference. Shining gold has the most noticeable difference, My purple goes a little darker than Joey’s, with a basecoat of Naggaroth Night and then Xereus Purple, a thinned down Druchii Violet and then another layer of Xereus Purple, and edges done in Genestealer Purple. Wash the gold with Gloss Reikland Fleshshade. Necro Gold is a somewhat greenish gold, and the red tones in the fleshshade warm up the colors while retaining the darker tone.

Parchment: VMA Sand (Ivory) washed with Agrax Earthshade, then highlighted again with VMA Sand (Ivory) again. Eshin Grey: Eshin Grey is a cool blue color that can be used as a split-complementary color to Doombull Brown, creating a balanced color scheme. It can be used to create highlights and shadows on the Doombull Brown. This is as far as I’ve gotten with the box. Next up from me is most likely going to be the bikes, which I’m extremely excited for as they’ll bring a nice bit of mobility into my army. At this point I’m not expecting any of the remaining models to be substantially different to what I’ve already painted up; the Bladeguard are the most complicated units remaining and I’ll be approaching them very similarly to how I painted up my Captain and Lieutenant. Raf’s Method Notes-Applying the wash at the end of the painting process will tie the colours together and make the transitions smoother. It can, however, result in a gloss finish. Matt varnish will fix this. How to paint Light Dapple Horses Skin It is not only Wargors and Beastlords that call the brayherd - sometimes the dread Doombulls will do so instead. Whereas a chieftain will have plotted and schemed and taken counsel from his shaman, a Minotaur will simply be responding to a deep-seated urge to destroy. A ravenous hunger - known as the bloodgreed - comes upon them, and they bellow a deafening warcry that raises like an echo in every Beastmen that hears it. [1a]Start the silver areas by painting any of the “machinery” with Vallejo Metal Color Magnesium, and any gun barrels or the metal areas on the lances with Iron Hands Steel. Codex: Adeptus Custodes is full of insight into the Emperor’s glorious bananas, highlighting their nature, organization and secret wars, but if you want to read more, here are a few books we’d suggest that dive into greater detail on the Custodes. I shaded the polished metal with my 1:1 Dark Tone [ Nuln Oil] and Nuln Oil Gloss mix, but instead of applying the wash all over, I painted it directly into the recesses. Once dry, I tidied up with Plate Mail Metal [ Ironbreaker]. There’s more to painting the Adeptus Custodes than just spraying your models down with Retributor Armor spray – though that’s certainly an option if you want to save time. We’ll look at several different methods for painting them here. Crab-Stuffed Mushroom’s Method One layer of Khorne Red and then another layer of Mephiston Red on the red bits (left gauntlet, shoulderpad)

Along the edges of the sleeves and inner coat, paint small parallel lines of Skrag Brown. Then paint small random dots of Skrag Brown on the rest of the sleeves and inner coat. Be subtle, don’t be heavy handed. Make up a mix 1:1 Baharroth:White and thin it right down to a glaze. I used Vallejo mediums for this, but Lahmian Medium would work just fine. You want it pretty transparent. Softly highlight the middle of the blade in a band across it. If the blade is really long you might want to do one wide band like this and then one thinner one either side. Use strokes running along the angle away from the tip, this helps it look sharp Finally, the shields were done by basecoating the inner section with Caliban Green followed by a heavy stipple of Warpstone. Reaper Jade Green was then lightly stippled, randomly to create clusters of color like you get in the gemstone. Finally the white veins were done with thinned down Splintered Bone. Scale75 Necro Gold frames the shield (and is what I used for all the rest of the gold. Use Baneblade Brown to paint the hair, beard, Sebastian the hedgehog’s face, trousers, front boot fur trim and the panel on the bag.It is definitely a unique color palette, guaranteed to make your army stand out from all other factions. One of the keys of good OSL is that the area under the glow needs to be brighter than the surrounding areas. To capture this I first drybrushed the same Transparent White I used on the armor onto his face, chest, and the edgers of his robe. All of my strokes were horizontal, parallel to the saber, and I concentrated the brush on the areas closest to the saber. Using transparent white helped prevent blowing out the underlying paint I’d already done and worked like a white glaze. For the hair, I once again started with Doombull Brown and this time highlighted with Reaper Tarnished Copper, then again with Tarnished Copper mixed with a bit of Wild Rider Red. The Doombull Brown paint from Citadel Colour is a high-quality acrylic paint that is perfect for miniature painting. The paint has a smooth, pigmented formula that provides excellent coverage and a matt finish. It is a great foundation color for any miniature painting project, and is suitable for both beginners and experienced painters. The paint is part of Citadel’s extensive palette of colours for miniatures, and is a versatile color that can be used to paint a variety of surfaces and textures on miniatures, including skin, fur, and leather. What armies to paint with Doombull Brown

Finally base the model in a way which fits in with your collection. I used Stirland Mud texture paint highlighted with Karak Stone and the base edge was painted with XV-88. Static grass and scrub were glued on in small clumps. Leadbelcher basecoat then Ironbreaker layer on the metals – gun, chest eagle, and in this case the soft bits of the armour The use of leather, fur, and organic materials in their armor and weapons led to the decision to include these armies on the list. These armies would be a fantastic match for the Doombull Brown paint, which is perfect for painting organic objects and giving them a sense of age and patina. Doombull Brown Colour Schemes & Combinations I highlighted the polished metal with Army Painter Shining Silver [Runefang Silver or Stormhost Silver]. Kha'Rak Stoneheart - A Doombull that slew a Bray-Shaman that tried to control him before the latter could leave his body. The shaman was thereafter trapped in Kha'Rak's mind warring for control with him, the towering Doombull as likely to stand firm and unleash dark magics upon his foe as he is to charge headlong into combat. [1a]And there you have it. Add any further small details you may want, but they’re all ready to go slay the enemies of the Emperor. As with most of these how-to guides, this scheme is design with army painting in mind, so easy to replicate on multiple models, fast and efficient. Ochre Armor The next step is the real secret sauce. I created a reasonably dilute wash with a mix of Golden High Flow Acrylics Sepia (pretty much a more concentrated Agrax Earthshade), Golden High Flow Acrylics Dioxazine Purple, and the product formerly known as Future Floor Polish (Now Pledge Floor Care Finish, unless they’ve changed it again.) I wash the entire model in this color, removing excess where it pools too much. If you are working with Games Workshop paints, a mix of Druchii Violet, Agrax Earthshade and water/lahmian medium will work just fine. You will, however, be spending a lot more money to wash an entire army of Custodes using this method. At this point the gold is complete. It’s simple, but has a nice rich depth and purplish warmth to it. http://www.ttfxmedia.com/vallejo/cgi-bin/_modelis_info.asp?p1=ing&p2=modelcolor&p3=1#modelcolorinfo
