Description

After much experimentation, we find that the Q80T responds well to the same picture tweaks we made to the Q95T. Thankfully, the strength of the set’s out-of-the-box settings and the clarity of the options mean there’s not too much to it. Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying a live scene and white square taking up 60% of the screen (measured in Nits) The Q80B exhibits all the attributes we’ve seen from previous Samsung QLED models. Its images are inherently bright, with well-saturated hues and diamond-etched detail. It’s particularly well suited for daytime TV and sports. Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying small white square taking up 60% of the screen (measured in Nits)

There’s good tonal balance, too. The surprisingly deep bass is thankfully free of the artificiality that’s common of TVs with small drivers, the midrange is clear and naturally weighted, and the treble is rounded off enough to avoid harshness. That said, we would avoid the Adaptive Volume feature, which introduces a little fuzz to proceedings. Adaptive Sound+ is definitely worth using, though, as everything sounds quite small-scale without it. Incidentally, the 50-inch Q80B doesn’t have physical height speakers like the rest of the range, instead relying on virtualisation. Picture processing is handled by Samsung’s AI-powered Quantum Processor 4K. This manages upscaling of lower-resolution sources, and in tandem with an integrated light sensor, adjusts picture characteristics according to available ambient light. This intelligent mode effectively puts the screen on autopilot, and visually it’s a smooth ride. For most viewers, this will probably be the best solution.Connect the QE55Q80BATXXU to your home’s Wi-Fi and make the most of unlimited entertainment on the incredible QLED display. Once linked up, you can enjoy a huge collection of apps and services, including: What you do get is adaptive HDR10+, a less widely adopted dynamic metadata standard, as well as regular HDR10 and HLG. If you prefer, you can disable this mode for a more conventional preset selection, comprising Filmmaker Mode, Dynamic, Standard, and Movie. We use the Standard preset for all content except games (use the Game preset here). For HDR, we simply add a point to Shadow Detail, switch Local Dimming to High, switch Picture Clarity to Custom and turn the Noise Reduction off. Our only issue here is that the grain is a little too pronounced. You can fix it by switching on Noise Reduction or reducing Sharpness further, but the former introduces a bit of smearing to faces as characters move their heads and the latter results in a softer picture than is ideal. Films with this much grain are pretty rare these days, and you don’t want to get rid of it entirely anyway, but some TVs strike a better balance than the Q80T.

Percentage luminance drop at 35 degree horizontal angle from the centre of the screen with 100% white output The HDMIs, of which there are four, aren’t officially 2.1-certified, but they do support the key 2.1 features, including eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel), HFR (High Frame Rate), ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) and VRR (Variable Refresh Rate). On the subject of VRR, the FreeSync format used by the Xbox One X and One S is supported out of the box, while G-Sync is apparently coming soon. Take home the ultimate in TV entertainment with this 55” QLED 4K TV from Samsung. The range of technology and smart features will change the way you watch your favourite movies and shows. What’s more, you can even stream directly from a PC to the 4K QLED screen. And, with Bluetooth connectivity, you can link up your compatible devices wirelessly. The QE55QN80BATXXU comes in a carbon silver finish and can be wall mounted or displayed on the included sand carbon floating plate stand.

The Q80T’s colour presentation remains the same as the Q70R, however, with a DCI-P3 coverage of 93% and a Rec.2020 coverage of 73%. Samsung has overhauled its 10-bit gradation compared to last year so the Q80T and indeed all other 2020 QLEDs from Samsung look smoother than ever in terms of colour gradient. Streaming service support is extensive. There’s Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Britbox, Now, and Apple TV+, to name just a few. UK buyers expecting to find Freeview Play as the default terrestrial TV service will find only vanilla Freeview, but thankfully all the main channel catch-up apps are on board, including BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4 and My5. Are you engrossed in your television? With EyeComfort mode, you can choose a more relaxing screen. It dynamically adapts your display and eliminates blue light to help keep your eyes comfortable, with sunrise and sunset times built in. The screen, like so many other Quantum Dot sets offered by Samsung, is an obvious choice for bright room viewing. It’s blessed with vibrant colours and fine detail.
