Where was the suspense??? And, the psychological thriller part??? The constant is she crazy or not was pretty obvious. It was easy to figure out what happened to Lucy...and the later "twists". As Rose’s fragmented memories resurface, and the police dig ever deeper, Saffy fears she and the cottage are being watched . . .

Found this book to be an excellent read and I will definitely be recommending this book to my friends. I didn’t want to put it down. Every chapter revealed another hidden secret that had my mind racing with anticipation to the next chapter.” Humming with anxiety and friction, The Sisters keep readers guessing as to who is doing what to whom until the very end…[A] gripping psychological debut’ SHELF AWARENESS Francesca (or ‘Frankie’ as she was known as a teenager) receives a call from Daniel, the brother of her childhood friend, Sophie. In 1997, Sophie went missing – all that was found was one of her trainers, left on the old pier where Frankie and her friends often went to spend time. Now, a body has been found which is believed to be Sophie’s, and Daniel asks Frankie to return home and help him find out what really happened all those years ago. Was Sophie’s disappearance a tragic accident, or was it murder?

I also felt there were lots of plot points which didn't add up. Why would Frankie remember someone posting her the dog tags if she sent them to herself? Why did Mia know a crying baby would be an effective scare tactic if she didn't know about the miscarriages? Did remains actually wash up on the beach? Why would the police just accept the absolutely mental and improbable story offered by Daniel et al and there be no consequences for faking a death? Sophie Collier, the victim in British author Douglas’s absorbing second novel (after 2016’s The Sisters), vanished from a decrepit pier at Oldcliffe-on-Sea in 1997 at age 21 and is presumed Continue reading »

The Sisters by Claire Douglas | Goodreads

After what happened in London, Kirsty needs a fresh start with her family. And running a guesthouse in the Welsh mountains sounds idyllic. The writing leaves the reader to guess much of how the story unfolds; I felt this mystery element was suitable for the tone of the story. I certainly didn't see several aspects of the book coming. The ending is rather abrupt, as per some reviewers noting, but I felt this was perhaps a suggestion that there was more to come from Abi. I would certainly read a sequel.Initially, all is well as the beautiful people live carefree and happy in one big house, hanging out and enjoying each others' company. Then things start to happen that starts Abi on a journey of unsettling behaviour and mistrust of others.

Book Review: The Sisters by Claire Douglas · Jenny in Neverland Book Review: The Sisters by Claire Douglas · Jenny in Neverland

I gave this book a star because it is an easy read and I did finish it. I decided to give it another star because I felt bad that this book didn't even grab me at any point. I will not be reading any further books by this author. cliche dialogues and poor writing only at times I felt like the book was written in creative writing style and conversation felt pretty naive. Humming with anxiety and friction, The Sisters keep readers guessing as to who is doing what to whom until the very end...[A] gripping psychological debut' SHELF AWARENESSSophie Collier came to Oldcliffe-On-Sea with her mother and brother when they ran away from Sophie's abusive father. Francesca (Frankie) Howe lived with her affluent mother and father in the seaside hotel that they ran. Frankie had never had a close relationship with her mother and preferred the company and attention of her dad, Alistair Howe. The beautiful, entitled, and popular Frankie took the less popular and plain Sophie under her wing and the girls were best friends throughout their childhood and adolescence. Except sometimes discovering the truth can cost you everything you hold dear – your family, your sanity and even your life. If there ever was one book that keeps you guessing till the end... This is it! I was immediately suspicious of one character, but then as the story progressed I realised that there were indeed MANY potential suspects. All characters seem shifty and to be hiding something. By the end I was totally and completely taken by surprise by the turn of events. I was NEVER expecting that finale...ever and I think it's very clever and original!
