Absolutely no problems here – if you’d rather sleep with a clean head of hair each night, this product will allow you to do so. You could achieve some mounds, if not peaks, and build up depth. The shrinkage wasn’t noticeable, due to the inclusion of plastic crystals, that were already solid. This is becasue the polymer acts mainly as a “glue”, rather than as the body of the gel. I’d say the finish was low shine or natural-finish and gradually dulled as the day progressed which was absolutely fine.

Using a paste is easy: apply a small, dime-sized amount of product on wet hair for a little bit more hold or dry hair for more texture. Make sure to warm it up by rubbing it in the palm of your hands before applying it to avoid clumping. Most pastes are water-soluble, which means they’re easy to wash out with some shampoo and won’t leave your hair greasy but also can be restyled and reworked throughout the day without adding more to your hair. If you’ve ever noticed your hair drooping after a long day of work, then you know how important restyling can be. It’s gained a fair amount of attention due to being the “official hair product of London Fashion Week”. But for regular, everyday users, does label.m matt paste live up to the hype?It was very difficult to make it smooth and show up tool marks very distinctly. It would be very useful if you wanted to create distinct levels within a piece. It isn’t eye-catching by any means but goes well with the overall minimalist and fashion-focused aesthetic. American Crew Fiber can generally be expected to produce a slightly stronger hold than Label M Matt Paste. However, the two products have a similar creamy and waxy consistency and produce a similar low-shine finish. Overall, it looks sleek. Everything about it oozes “professional stylist”– it’s what you’d expect to find on the shelf of a salon. It’s always easier to apply creamy hair products to clean hair than it is with oily or greasy hair.

Label M is a reputable brand with people who know what they are doing, so you can be rest assured that it won’t damage your hair. While the brand does claim to create products to promote healthy hair, I don’t think the matte paste improves the health of your hair, it just maintains the hair’s current health. The Matte Paste’s ingredients help to coat and protect the hair from environmental damage, which I find handy when I use it as a pre-styler, because it gives me a barrier of protection from the heat styling. Upon the initial applications you can feel the activation of a strong hold and tact straight away, but this tact fades the more the hair is reworked leaving a slightly more natural feeling.

It might not be your most pressing question when looking for the right product, but who am I to assume? Whilst the Matt Paste will wash off with just warm water, the clay will need a little more encouragement… nothing my Caffeine Shampoo couldn’t handle.

Label.m Matte Paste holds your hair’s style shape quite well, and when you combine that with its lightweight formula it gives off a high holding effect for short to medium length hair. But once your hair gets longer, it doesn’t have enough structure and hold to support the weight. APPLICATION 8/10 Label.m Matte Paste is pretty much what it sounds like, it is a hair styling product with a pasty texture and feel, that mostly delivers a matte finish. It is quite firm to the touch, and once emulsified applies quite easily to the hair. The hardest and least flexible of all Golden products, it increases film hardness and needs to be used in pure form on rigid surfaces. It also needs to dry at a minimum of 21 degrees. It improves adhesion to non-porous surfaces. Dries to a high gloss with an excellent transparency. Useful for hard edge techniques as it has less pull than other acrylic compositions. GAC 400 The shape and structure the Label.m Matte Paste gives to the hair can be quite durable. For shorter styles it can last through most activities, but of course, it gets a bit greasy the more it needs to be reworked. Since the paste gives quite a lightweight hold, you might still find your hair falling apart throughout the day.

Dries to a hard, stiff film, making it useful for priming canvases if stiffness is required. It can be used as a rabbit skin glue alternative. GAC 500 I found it quite hard to achieve decent strings after mixing the tar gel with fluid acrylic, and I found the working time was very short, before it started being too gloopy to make long strings. However, when used neat, it was very easy to control and create strings, loops and other effects. This may be because it needs to mixed and left to sit overnight. These drips that were unmixed, see the swatch on the right, were completely clear and levelled out quite a lot, as well as being un-absorbent on the surface. Most mediums are available in gloss, matt or semi-matt and you can use a varnish over a finished acrylic painting to unify the finish whether you want a matt, gloss or semi-gloss surface. This is why we chose not to look at sheen for this comparison. Whilst both the Matt Clay and Paste have, and no surprises here, a matt finish, they have different shines, sheens and secureness. This clay is dry, with a medium hold and low sheen finish. No shininess here without the aid of your versatile beard oil. Alternatively, the paste is medium shine, medium hold, with a natural-looking sheen.

There’s a small amount of resistance but it’s barely noticeable. I usually some resistance as a good thing as it’s a sign that you’ll have some grip to keep the style in place once you’re done.

Start working the paste into your hair, distributing it in every direction, and coating the strands from root-to-tip. On the other hand, my Matt Paste is water-based, relying on integrated styling polymers to set your desired style in place. It is a lighter product, so can present a set of advantages depending on your hair type. Because the paste sets your hair, rather than holds it, you’ll find it a more formidable product for a strong, unfailing look. If you were planning on applying some sea salt spray or other texturizing pre-styler, it’s a good idea to do it before blow-drying to really maximize the effect. 2. Break Down A Dime-Sized Amount If your hair is on the longer side, I would say this product isn’t durable enough to get you through the day. But pastes are considered a short hair product anyway, so that’s not unexpected. INGREDIENTS 8.0/10 If you’re blow-drying, use it as an opportunity to add lift and volume by tousling and finger-combing against the direction growth while doing it.
