If you want your Mac to read IBM PC format 3.5-inch floppies, you can use a vintage PC USB floppy drive. (Ironically, Catalina can still read the FAT12 file system used by vintage MS-DOS floppies, but not old Mac disks.) Stage 4: Becoming a Fluent Reader – Children learn new sounds including ai, ee, igh, oa, oo, ar, or, ur, ow, oi, ear, air, ure, er. Let’s talk about the achievements and incredible things Read with Oxford has produced with this marvellous series. The stories don’t just focus on one particular place, but take children all around the world, across deserts, forests, the sea and in various locations in different countries. This not only teaches children about new words and sentences, but it forms new views and broadens children’s perspective on their surroundings, habitat and what goes on around them. Biff and Chip are twins. Biff loves to play football and go swimming, and she is always ready to join in with games and loves to craft things. Chip likes to go cycling, enjoys sports activities and creative activities like drawing. Their real names are Elizabeth and David. Kipper couldn’t pronounce those either.

The FC5025 copies the floppy data to disk image files, so you'll also need a disk image tool, like WinImage, to read and extract the data. Option 2: Use a Kryoflux with an Internal 5.25-Inch Floppy Drive If you're looking for more of a roll-your-own challenge, you could also buy a vintage internal 3.5-inch floppy drive. Perhaps you even have one sitting around. You can connect it to a generic floppy-to-USB adapter. Our first Floppy's Phonics cohort (Reception 2011) are due to graduate from Y2 this summer - 98% are L2+ in Reading, and 40% L3+. Many of the early stories are focused on family life. This is perfect for younger children, who can recognise the situations the characters find themselves in, and this will support their learning.

Closely-matched, Floppy's Phonics Decoding Practiceoffers targeted reading practice at each stage of teaching A step-by-step and flexible DfE validated phonics programme that engages children in reading from the outset. Developed by highly respected phonics expert Debbie Hepplewhite MBE, is perfect for schools who want high-quality phonics teaching resources and professional development in a range of online formats, for full confidence in teaching phonics. Despite the branding, you don't need a drive that matches your PC. For example, a Sony USB floppy drive will work when connected to a USB port on any Windows PC. Option 3: Use an Internal Floppy Drive with a Cheap USB Adapter

Parents and teachers are huge advocates of these books because they are dedicated to teaching children phonics. This series of over 800 books has helped millions of young readers around the world, from primary school age upwards. It has become part of the National Curriculum and is used in 80% of UK primary schools. It’s available in over 130 countries, translated into more than 15 languages and read by more than 30 million children. The vibrant illustrations by Brychta were designed to appeal to children in two ways. The central characters are simple, so children can draw them themselves. However, the picture as a whole is beautifully detailed, so kids can enjoy pointing out all the different things in the illustration. Brychta was born in Czechoslovakia and grew up around books that were “absolutely horrible… there was no humour at all, it was tedious.”The books are designed to provide phonics-based reading practice, help support children’s reading experience and broaden their skills. The books are brimming with funny tales, drama, and charming characters that inspire, excite, and spark curiosity in children. You can rig an external power supply for the floppy drive with the proper adapter. Another option is to mount the drive and adapter internally in a computer case, and then use a SATA power adapter there. We haven't tested those boards, though, so proceed at your own risk. Option 4: Use a Vintage Computer with a Floppy Drive and Network Connection

Stage 5: Building Comprehension – Children learn alternative spellings for sounds they already know and practice blending and segmenting longer words. Stage 1: Starting to Read – Children learn the sounds s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d. They also learn to blend sounds to read simple words.

Review | June 2020

Decodable reading practice throughout teaching resources andaligned decodable readers from Floppy’s Phonics Fiction and Traditional Tales. Children progress through five different learning levels. They start with phonics in Level 1, then move to simple words and short sentences in Level 2. These sentences get longer in Level 4, progressing to reading by themselves more in Level 4. Finally, Level 5 sees them becoming a full-fledged independent reader.
