Description

She loves Declan, and the double blow of losing him to his illness and losing her home as well, is devastating. It's wonderfully funny, yet a bit sad, filled with secrets galore, twists and turns in family dynamics and to what lengths a family will go to protect each other. Having really enjoyed other novels by Graham Norton, I was looking forward to reading his latest, Forever Home.

But there's not much of my life - I deliberately tried to keep my life out of the books because - I mean, it's different here, in this country, where I'm - you know, I'm not really very well-known at all. And when people are older and in relationships, you always imagine they're very stable and, you know, people are settled. To her dismay, she discovers that the Barry siblings have put the house up for sale, despite it being their father’s wish for the house never to be sold. I really enjoyed Forever Home and I can equally imagine reading it on holiday somewhere sunny as I could whilst curled up inside when it's chilly outside. His latest, Forever Home, sees him in familiar territory, with a mystery set in the fictional town of Ballytoor.I don't believe anything is ridiculed by this lighter tone but you have to go into with it being a bit playful, maybe tongue in cheek, and therefore, a "cozy" mystery IMO. But when Carol and Declan became something more and Carol moves into the house the tension is palpable. I have said it before, with every review I’ve written on one of his novels, but Graham Norton really is in a class of his own. But back home, the danger was, because my name was on the cover of the book, I would be reading the book over people's shoulders.

It just seemed so twisted and wrong to Sally that Killian was to become a father when he showed so little love for his own. It holds the reader’s attention (though I did find myself waiting for a twist that never came) and entertains. Where to start … I really enjoyed the first half or so of this book but then it all got a bit too farcical and far fetched for my liking. He’s seemingly revelling in a second chance at a relationship, too, given the wife of his two adult children mysteriously disappeared years ago. But I guess the nature of a small town is that everybody knows who everybody is anyway, and so that's not actually a difference.Norton’s previous three novels, Holding, A Keeper and Home Stretch became instant bestsellers both in the UK and Ireland. There’s some really nice stuff here about the ache of watching someone rapidly decline, childhood trauma and the suffocating meaning-of-life decisions about family, relationships and work. The children resented her, understandable because she had taken their mother's place, someone they both felt would come back.

Carol's mother is determined to get to the bottom of things, she won't see her daughter suffer in this way.Her soulmate and partner, Declan Barry, is no longer by her side, and she is being evicted from the home they shared by his grown up children.

It’s a discovery that threatens to decimate every memory and truth Carol shared with the man she once loved. Is taken from my mother, where - you know, silence in the car to me is you're driving along silently. The inclusion of the dry, snickery humor this author is so well-known for is an added bonus and pure-delight. So I tried really hard to keep anything to do with, you know, the media or celebrity or London - anything that people might associate with me - out of these books.Forever Home follows Carol Crottie, a secondary school English teacher whose private life has captivated her small Irish town. The characters are also just as brilliant as they have been in his other novels, and feel very convincing. As usual, this one starts with a gentle slice of Irish village life and characters, but soon descends into something darker.
