Natürlich ist nicht jeder Song traurig, es ist ein auf und ab der Gefühle. Bittersüß wie das Leben oftmals ist. I want to start out by saying that I am a tremendous fan of Ben's previous work on Every Kingdom and The Burgh Island EP. His talent and his ability to play passionately and connect with his fans is inspiring. He is truly a wonderful musician in this modern time. I am fortunate to have known about him for awhile and have been looking forward to this upcoming release. Marsh, Graeme (14 October 2014). "Ben Howard – I Forget Where We Were". musicOMH. OMH . Hann, Michael (16 October 2014). "Ben Howard: I Forget Where We Were review – indie-folk singer finds his darker side". The Guardian . Retrieved 20 October 2014.

Old joke time. Stop me if you've heard this: What's the difference between a singer-songwriter and a puppy? Eventually, the puppy with STOP whining. Yes, I know. So, Ben Howard. He is a singer-songwriter who does that angsty thing of I'm-so-deep-and-angsty, and listen to my atmospheric music, and don't you want to comfort me? Sonically, though, I was more impressed than I expected to be. That Monica Heldal connection, as it turned out, worked! Cottingham, Christian (15 October 2014). "Ben Howard – I Forget Where We Were". Clash . Retrieved 20 October 2014. This isn't to say that the album is free of sonic clichés, or that the instrumental work is the most virtuosic around, but if you are reading a review of this album, that's likely not what you are looking for anyway. If you are bothering to read this, take it as another data point, from someone who idiosyncratically cares more about sound than lyrics.

Indie folk artists should look to I Forget Where We Were as an example of how to take music from basic acoustic songs to a dark, atmospheric, well made album. Retrospectively, I Forget Where We Were stands out one of the finest folk releases of the decade. Hardy, Tony (24 October 2014). "Ben Howard – I Forget Where We Were". Consequence of Sound . I have come to appreciate a certain level of song writing from Ben Howard from his previous work. He does not disappoint in this latest release. The lyrics are unique and paint imagery that is palpable and at the same time unique in his expression of his experience. Ben is so passionate in his delivery that I feel when his music is playing at my house he is giving it his all. Truly an enjoyable and re-playable album. One of the best releases of 2014 in my opinion. Fothergill, Lucas. "Ben Howard – I Forget Where We Were". Drowned in Sound. Archived from the original on 2 February 2020 . Retrieved 20 October 2014. My latest discovery, British singer/songwriter Ben Howard, has released two albums this far that hint at two different directions. Just look at the album covers: His debut Every Kingdom is an average indie folk effort with a terrible indie cover and terrible indie title, his second, I Forget Where We Were, is a much darker, thoughtful, and - simly put - more challenging album. An entirely different story, Howard puts forward ten dark, haunting and dreamy songs (the album is 55 minutes long). And the result is the best album of 2014 to me. I Forget Where We Were is the second album by British singer-songwriter Ben Howard, released on 20 October 2014. Ben Howard's New Album: I Forget Where We Were | Rolling Stone".
