Katherine is well respected medial professional that is until she goes home where both her and her husband have been home schooling their only son Andy who has a number of medical conditions.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. He reminded us what real-life horror looks like with HENRY, now brings you a all new psychological horror film entitled: The Harvest.Clearly we all have different ideas of excellence, but writing as someone not knowing anything about this movie, prior to viewing, I have to agree it’s NOT A HORROR movie, but IT IS AN EXTRAORDINARY PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER, which from beginning to end traces a brilliantly well executed and acted entry into the world of a crazed mother/physician played so well by Morton. A TV weatherman is recruited by government scientists to help contain powerful freak winds before they converge and destroy the planet. He does get a 1-up on her at one point and it’s a great little moment, you’ll cheer him on and then realise you’re genuinely terrified for his safety. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Starring Michael Shannon (Man of Steel, The Iceman) and directed by John McNaughton (Wild Things), a mentally unstable physician (Samantha Morton) keeps her dying son completely secluded from the outside world in a bid to preserve what life he has left.

As the young pair grow ever closer, Charlie’s mother (Morton) becomes increasingly concerned for her sick boy and obsessive in her quest to shelter him from harm.Whether it be Richard, who can’t escape his unhappy marriage and controlling wife, or Andy who literally can’t escape from his wheelchair, there is a definite exploration of what it means to be stuck in a situation. Played by Natasha Calis, the young Maryann who befriends Andy represents the modern female; she is strong-willed, brave and fearless. The Harvest (released as Can't Come Out to Play in Europe) [1] is a 2013 American horror thriller film released by IFC Films that was directed by John McNaughton.

This is clearly NOT for the less CONTEMPLATIVE VIEWER, as evidenced by the baffling reviews perceiving it as slow. We never know how Kathleen’s going to act and her personality shifts more suddenly than the British weather. The most terrifying aspect of the film comes from this harrowing performance by Samantha Morton, who plays the doting, loving and obsessive mother. Nevertheless, I definitely did not expect the twist towards the end of the film and had not guessed the true picture at all. Her performance is understated and subtle, yet perfectly and entirely successfully at presenting the quiet evil that resides inside her character.A frantic Katherine, refusing to accept that there is no hope for her son, subdues Richard with a sedative and pursues the children. For someone so young she is an utter badass, showing that young girls can be just as tough as their seniors. There was some fine acting from the youngsters Charlie Tahan and especially Natasha Calis as the friend who puts everything on the line to rescue him.

Still reeling from the loss of her parents, she takes it personally until one day when she is trapped in the house and she discovers the Young's terrible secret. This is a commendable film from McNaughton with an almost touching and clever treatment of clashing perspectives, those of the innocent children and those of grieving adults. As the young pair grow ever closer, Charlie's mother (Morton) becomes increasingly concerned for her sick boy and obsessive in her quest to shelter him from harm. They manage to get back inside the house and Maryann hides in the basement, where she discovers a comatose boy. That incident, introduces us to Katherine (played by Samantha Morton) who is caring for her sick invalid son, Andy (played by Charlie Tahan) alongside her husband (played by Michael Shannon). Can’t Come Out To Play explores ideas surrounding the role of the woman; with the two main female characters representing completely opposing ideologies. Mary Ann moves in next door and befriends Andy however nothing is what it seems at Andy house with a shock of what is in the basement. I agree totally with other reviews who say that it is definitely a thriller but the suspense doesn't build steady enough which ruins it. and there folks lies this truly ENGROSSING thriller, that left me feeling as though I had been treated to an Oscar worthy production, gripping from beginning to end.
