To find something to best suit this atmosphere, I open this book, which I’ve been meaning to read for a while. I lie down in bed, and play the perfect companion for this reading session: Chopin’s Preludes and Nocturnes. Here, I have successfully fetishised melancholia. But to understand and appreciate Cioran, the reader needs to occupy this very atmosphere: an aesthetic fetishism of melancholy.
