This isn’t an especially boisterous or dynamic mix, but the surround channels are used for modest but constant ambience and you will hear the occasional directional sound effect in action scenes.

Overseeing the carnage is 'Beat' Takeshi Kitano (Sonatine, Hana-bi, Zatoichi) as the teacher pushed to the edge by his unruly charges. Incidentally, this is the first time that the Battle Royale II sequel has had a UK Blu-ray release, and at the time of writing is only available in this collection. There’s not a lot between the two versions, and I feel like the Special Edition was a smidge softer. They are: Battle Royale, The Hills Have Eyes, Sailor Suit and Machine Gun, Mill of the Stone Women, and Phantom of the Mall: Eric's Revenge. I've not seen anyone provide convincing evidence either way on that, and personally I found the picture quality to be excellent compared to the previous releases. The fifth disc in the set is also a soundtrack CD, so one can pretend that they're being hunted by their classmates if one listen to it whilst out for a run. To ensure the kids take part, every student has been fitted with a special collar with an explosive device.

Silver Salt was responsible for mastering and grading the film from the original 35 mm camera negative of the Theatrical version in 4K.The film is an adaptation of Koushun Takami’s 1999 novel of the same name, with the film’s screenplay written by Kenta Fukasaku, music composed by Masamichi Amano, and distributed by Toei Company. Interestingly, there was an ad on the reverse of their included "Enter the World of 4K Ultra HD"-card for the little seen horror movie, The Deeper You Dig, released on blu-ray last year. Battle Royale ' tells the story of the children of Third Year Class-B Shiroiwa Junior High School, who are the latest group of teens to be selected to take part in the BR ACT, an initiative passed by the Japanese government to try to combat the growing number of unruly and disruptive young people in their country. Now that legacy lives on with the movie receiving its very own UHD restoration in a new 4K Ultra HD limited edition box set. Unfortunately, any effort to polish a turd only leaves you with a shinier turd—the film’s quality improvements, such as they are, are more than undermined by the runtime.

If you love Battle Royale, Japanese cinema in general, or simply great 4K, this is a must-have import release. Apologies for a question that’s probably easy to answer, but because Arrow took down the Battle Royale page, my last thought was to ask here.As Japanese society descends into anarchy, new laws are passed in an attempt to deter the country's wayward youth, and a class of high school students is chosen at random and dumped on a deserted island, where they're forced to kill each other until only one remains. And finally, the new Blu-ray release gives the film the uplift to HD that the original Blu-ray release missed out on. Hell, when I was a teenager back in the early 1980s, all I had to worry about was whether or not the Russians loved their children too.
