Description

The MXR M169 Carbon Copy Analog Delay is a contemporary delay pedal with roots deeply planted in the classic tape echo tones of the past. MXR that laid the groundwork for some of the most popular effects circuits of all time, and their commitment to no-nonsense analog tone shines through with the Carbon Copy. Regen controls the number of repeats in the delay signal, while Delay controls the time between each repeat.

In the top left corner the MOD switch adds a small amount of modulation (a slight up and down pitch shift) to the delayed signal. With twice as much delay time and tap tempo functionality with four different subdivisions, you now have more control over your Carbon Copy repeats than ever. The Carbon Copy Deluxe Analog Delay adds a bevy of new features to fine-tune the warm, organic sound that has made the original the bestselling analog delay in the world. As a fan of analog tone, I’ve always loved the decaying repeats of a nice, warm analog delay but I’ve always felt let down by short delay times or overly-muddy tone. The MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay features a completely analog audio path for the ultimate in rich, warm delay - made possible only by old-school bucket brigade technology. With the "mod" button engaged the soundshape dives into a marvelous chorus/vibrato like mood, which I have on nearly everytime.

The DM-2W by Boss ( our review) can switch between a vintage, dark delay and a longer and crisper, more modern sound. Use the Delay and Regen controls to dial in the time between repeats—up to 600ms—and how many repeats you want, and then use the Mix control to set the wet to dry signal ratio. Featuring an entirely analog audio path, it delivers a warm and rich delay through the use of bucket-brigade technology - that old-school vibe! This pedal can be powered by a 9-volt battery, a Dunlop ECB003 9-volt adapter, or the DC Brick™, Iso-Brick™, and Mini Iso-Brick™ power supplies (not included). Amazingly beautiful sounds, from quirky slapback to dreamlike delay soundscapes, organic feeling that doesn't alter the core of your sound and on top of that a mod button that gets you even further. The Carbon Copy also features glow in the dark controls, such a simple idea yet so useful on dark stages.

The straight-forward layout of Regen, Mix, and Delay controls on the Carbon Copy provide an extremely open-ended array of delay tones to work with. The Carbon Copy will take you from crisp bathroom slap echoes to epic, Gilmour-esque delays with a twist of a knob.Featuring 600ms of delay time with optional modulation, and a three-knob layout that controls Delay, Mix, and Regen. So the solution is to put the CC in the (parallel) FX loop, so the distortion comes before the delay.

CITES regulations concerning the export of items containing certain woods affect any guitar sold ouside of the European Union and which contains any quantity of either Rosewood or Bubinga. There is no way to split the wet/dry signals either, so adding an EQ to the delay sound is not an option. This pedal has become the go-to standard for any player who wants a well-rounded, easy-to-use delay that sounds incredible. Plug in your guitar, bass, synth, electric accordion or really anything else with an output, and step into the world of delay. While it may lack the elaborate controls of some digital modelers, it more than makes up for it in its tried-and-true bucket brigade-driven analog tone. Just from the first time I plugged it in and until now after a recent concert I did with it, it never ceased to amaze me. Overall this unit really fattens up the steel tone and does for standard guitar what an echoplex would in my application as far as straight slapback echo.
