Description

The Mortal Engines world was originally written as an alternative universe set in the early 1900s, but Reeve has stated this turned out to require just too much explaining as how and where history could have diverged.

In an interview with Polygon on 30 October 2018, producer Peter Jackson explained an absence of a game based around the 2018 Mortal Engines movie, saying if that film performs well enough to make a sequel, there will definitely be a videogame to follow. Seeing Hester's tears and realizing that Hester's love for Tom gives her a reason to live as a human now, he gives her a necklace he found on Hester as a child, and releases her from her promise with a soft smile on his face, her name being his last words. At the sides are enormous tracks or wheels; and huge hydraulic "jaws" at the bows to capture smaller towns. In the 2018 film, Shrike is notable as one of the most faithfully adapted elements in a film whose script otherwise takes numerous narrative and aesthetic liberties with the original novel.Reeve then published three further novels, Predator's Gold (2003), Infernal Devices (2005), and A Darkling Plain (2006).

At the town hall, the townspeople inquired as to Shrike's purpose, and he stated that he is one of the Remembering Machines. Atop the whole of London sits St Paul's Cathedral: the only building known to have survived the Sixty Minute War. Even that could have been some sort of meta-commentary unto itself but the story is content with meaningless and often uninspired action sequences. The story essentially comes down to good versus evil, but the characters are so unexplored that even that falls flat.

Mortal Engines Quartet Series by Philip Reeve - Goodreads

Published on 16 November 2001, it focuses on a futuristic, steampunk version of London, now a giant machine striving to survive on a world running out of resources. The two fly off to get their ship repaired, unsure what to do next but happy to at least have each other. The surviving pirates mutiny and attempt to execute Tom and Hester, but Shrike intervenes and kills the pirates. Reeve has stated that major influences on the Mortal Engines Quartet include Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings. Given to her by Valentine on the night he killed her mother, Hester’s scar is described as “hideous”, mangling her nose and mouth and even removing one of her eyes. It is a major feature of the first book in the series, as Historians in London have found the plans for the weapon, which is then reconstructed in London's Saint Paul's Cathedral and used against the city's enemies.
