Description

This was an okay read that kept me entertained for the most part. I have read other books by this author that I enjoyed a lot more, namely The Couple Next Door, Not a Happy Family, and An Unwanted Guest. When the mystery is finally resolved and it all makes sense, you will still be asking yourself questions about how far people are willing to go to cover a crime committed by somebody they love. We know from the very beginning of the book that a horrendous murder has taken place. We know the murder weapon used and the fact that the murderer was male. We also learn the identity of the victim: Amanda Pierce is reported missing by her husband Robert. The murderer is someone who lives in one of these houses. It is in all likelihood someone we know... But to discover who it was and why, we'll have to doubt every single person, no matter how nice and friendly they appear to be. I flew through Shari Lapena's first book The Couple Next Door so was thrilled to be sent a proof of her new novel Someone We Know and what a treat it was. One neighbourhood, four couples, an amateur burglar and one dead body – this is a masterful whodunnit, perfectly paced and expertly plotted, that had me guessing all the way through. Like Desperate Housewives with bite. I loved it and couldn't put it down." Who is this boy, and what might he have uncovered? As whispers start to circulate, suspicion mounts.

An intriguing cast, an isolated location, a raging storm and the threat of death in every dark corner: An Unwanted Guestreads like Agatha Christie with a shot of adrenalin. Clear your desk before you start it because you won’t want to put it down.” This book had me on the edge of my seat, finishing it this morning around 3am. I highly recommend this book, it is my favorite so far from Shari, can wait to see whats next. Riveting read by the New York Times bestselling author of The Couple Next Door…Fast-paced with lots of twists and turns and an ending I didn't see coming.” Then a neighbor’s wife is found dead. Are the two events related? As the police investigate it becomes clear that lies are being told, but who is lying and why? The dynamics among the small pool of suspects kept me on my toes. And Richard Pierce worries about what the intruder might have seen in his house....like the burner phone he hid.

READERS GUIDE

I am so very late to this party so I won't bore you with a re-cap because you all have read this already. But what I will say is that this book is FUN!!! This novel is fast-paced (as they all are)...she grabs you right from the first chapter and takes you on one spectacular thriller ride... Fabulous TWISTS......I never guess how her books end! Psychological thrillers like to toy with characters’ and readers’ perceptions. Where did your sympathies lie as the story unfolded? How did they shift as the story progressed? Thrillers love to ask the question How well do we ever really know anybody? Do you think people in real life harbor as many secrets as they do in fiction? How far do you think fiction strays from real life? Do you think truth is actually stranger than fiction? Discuss. Olivia is worried about having written the anonymous letters, but she doesn't fess up. The letters - and Raleigh's crimes - prey on Olivia's mind, however, and she confides in her best friend Glenda. Glenda has problems also, since her teenage son drinks. The women share many cups of coffee and glasses of wine as they commiserate with one another.

Olivia is mortified by her son, Raleigh, breaking into neighbors’ houses. Do you think the apology letters were a bad or good idea? To what degree should parents feel accountable, or be held accountable, for the actions of their children? Discuss. Someone We Know is a tour de force of thriller writing. Shari Lapena proves yet again that she is the mistress of the pacy plot, cliff edge tension and menacing suburban claustrophobia. Fans will be delighted and if you haven’t read her books yet, then why on earth not?” This was a Traveling Sister read. The ending made for a good discussion as it is a love/hate scenario.
