For someone who had no idea whatsoever about whiskies, this tour was highly informative. We couldn't have asked for a better tour guide than Annie, who patiently explained everything and answered even the silliest questions to our satisfaction. She made the tour extra special by offering our son, who had just turned 18, a taste of one of their finest whiskies. To promote responsible drinking and safety they even provided a small bottle to carry the sample so that whoever is driving can also taste the whisky - from the comforts of their own home.

Peaches and cream. Bowls full of it. Yep. Really. The sweet juicy orangey fruit flavours and a soft texture and creamy vanilla. It’s not all sweetness though as there a grassy/hay flavour in there and a little oak spice – particularly nutmeg, cinnamon and candied ginger. A teeny tiny touch of smoke there maybe too? Palate: Smooth and sweet; almost cloying with an absence of spice. A flabby middle continues the initial taste experience. The dram bitters significantly as the wood takes over (a few tired casks in this batch). If you are visiting Balmoral, you could very well plan a visit to this little distillery too. It is set in beautiful surroundings and that adds to the charm of this place. We would definitely recommend it to anyone who wish to enjoy a tour in a most relaxed manner and setting. When we got to the distillery we were seen promptly and as we the only people on this particular tour we were shown around pretty much straight away even though we were around 45 minutes early!Even through the distillery itself was closed for maintenance and the tour had to be covid secure, our host Eric did a wonderful job of making our visit very memorable.
