If Ombre Noir is the exciting romantic beginnings, then A L'Extreme is the long weeks after the affair. The original encre noire and the sport flanker are very similar, but this is different, the addition of patchouli makes it very different. If you're very familiar with pine forests like I am then this will not smell "dark" to you, it will smell like freshly cut heart wood.

The once light, ethereal wood of Encre Noir is now transformed into a log dank with decay, cloying your nostrils with the stink of its decomposition. The dry down takes a while and adds hints of cedar and orange peel citrus mixed with iris giving a subtle soapiness. Usually put it on whenever I’m playing horror games or watching a scary film lol, I prefer the original but this flanker does smell more like a polished mahogany wood, it is pleasant but you have to be in the mood for it. It almost smells more like a place or an atmosphere rather than a character or a person, if that makes sense.My interest is renwed, and maybe I'll layer it next time w/ something like an oud or cedarwood oil, also on skin, and see where it takes me. Both of them moderately liked them, and my mother, lover of floral aquatic scents, snagged my sample of Encre Noire. A perfume written with the beauty of the vetyver multiple facets: a mysterious yet light woodiness, warm and textured, mellow and smoky. Perhaps I am biased here as I'm not a particular fan of resinous fragrances, much preferring the more natural green, herby and floral scent profiles.

Where Sycomore uses tobacco, ENALE throws in incense to further strengthen this accord and to give additional dimension and character to it. L'Extreme" is an artistic and not a technical descriptor—referring to the scent profile (more intense woods), not to the concentration of the fragrance. This can be quite strong when first sprayed which can be quite overwhelming however this calms down within 15 minutes or so to it’s true level. However the closer i’d move my nose to the sprayed part the more i could detect an annoying penetrating synthetic note that’d give a slight dizziness/headache.If Blue de Channel is like a beautiful photo of a landscape, The Encre Noire series are like a Picasso painting - they are not meant to be pleasing for the masses and that's ok.
