TJB has always been one of my favorite translations because it’s accurate (it’s easy to ignore and overlook obvious doctrinal biases when they occasionally appear), it’s hasn’t been dumbed down but actually challenges the reader to study and pray about what God is saying.

However it was my fault for not reading the dust jacket before hand which mentioned, “limited footnotes where necessary to clarify only the literal meaning of the text.R. Tolkien translated the Book of Jonah for the Jerusalem Bible, although its final version was heavily edited, and he is listed among its "principal collaborators". g. Like the Jerusalem Bible, the New Jerusalem Bible makes the uncommon decision to render God's name, the Tetragrammaton in the Jewish scriptures, as Yahweh rather than as " Lord", in 6,823 places in the NJB Old Testament.

Substantially revising the JB and NJB texts, the new translation "applies formal equivalence translation for a more accurate rendering of the original scriptures, sensitivity to readable speech patterns and more inclusive language". Coincidentally, the Qumran text sometimes agrees with the Septuagint, from about the same period, rather than with the later Masoretic text. The Jerusalem Bible is one of the versions authorized to be used in services of the Episcopal Church. Speaking about the dust jacket, I would like to note how the publishers mentioned that the Bible is “a portable 5 1/2” x 8 1/4” trim size”. Remains faithful to the meaning of the original scriptures while avoiding traditional male bias of the English language. The introductions and footnotes, translated almost entirely from the French, have also been thoroughly revised and expanded, making it one of the most scholarly editions of the Bible.

The NJB is one of the versions authorized to be used in services of the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion. With that said however, The Jerusalem Bible, Reader’s Edition is a great addition to the library of anyone who wants to discover Scripture through a different lens. I like the Jerusalem Bible translation, but this edition is honestly more of Bible for home study, for those who want to read and use a Catholic translation with a separate commentary.
