Description

If you haven’t read it, don’t miss out this masterpiece and the best of the best Taylor Jenkins Reid book ( I liked it even more than Daisy Jones and the six) The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is a Romance, Historical Fiction novel written by American author Taylor Jenkins Reid. She is an American author.

Evelyn’s producer and best friend and Connor’s father. Harry discovers Evelyn and the two develop a close friendship that evolves into a platonic, loving marriage.Harry is hiding his sexuality and is the only person that Evelyn comes out to. He is protective, loving, and rational. He guides and supports Evelyn throughout her life. Aside from Evelyn, Harry Cameron was truly the best thing about this entire book! <33 I loved this man so much and I think he’s an angel! He was always respectful and supportive and even more important he accepted Evelyn exactly the way she was. I loved that he and Evelyn always tried to solve every problem together and I hated to see him so sad after the death of John. T_T Harry’s grief broke my heart and even though he was drinking way too much he never did anything stupid. I mean he never hurt Evelyn or got frustrated with her, he only tried to compensate his grief without hurting anyone else in the process. Even when it came to this he was considerate and kind. =(( Poor Harry, though. It made me so damn sad that he had to go and I admit it, I actually shed some tears when he died. T_T Evelyn and Celia reunite. Evelyn marries Harry, and they move to Manhattan and live closely with Celia and John, posing as two heterosexual couples. During the Stonewall Riots, the four of them agree to start secretly funding LGBT pioneers since they are unable to publicly take part. After several idyllic years, Harry suggests that he and Evelyn have a child, and Evelyn agrees. With Celia's blessing, they have a daughter named Connor.Monique Grant, a reporter for the Vivant magazine, has been selected to interview Evelyn Hugo, a reclusive former star, who is auctioning some of her famous gowns to raise money for a breast cancer charity in honor of her deceased daughter, who had died from the disease. Monique is confused about why Evelyn has chosen her, but goes to Evelyn's apartment to meet her. Evelyn reveals she has no interest in giving an interview for Vivant but instead wants Monique to write her life story, and Monique agrees, though she is suspicious. Evelyn satiates her suspicions temporarily by mentioning an article Monique had previously written about assisted suicide that had received much acclaim, although promising that all of Monique's questions will be answered by the end. Beyond that, this is the ultimate guilty pleasure book. IT IS SO FUN READING ABOUT OLD HOLLYWOOD AND OLD MOVIES. I wanted to watch the entire Evelyn Hugo canon after this, and then it was like, oh wait, she’s not real. Evelyn Hugo is certainly a study in contrasts – after sitting down to record Evelyn’s memoirs, Monique realizes she’s a person you hate, but can’t help admire. Evelyn is a strong woman, there is no doubt about that, but is she painfully self-absorbed and selfish too? Everything she does is to make sure her star will rise no matter how many times, or how many people she hurts in the process. It’s her way or no way. Evelyn feels she does this for solely for her survival and for the protection of her one true and great love, but you start to wonder / distance yourself from her sometimes because she only sees what she wants, not how other people are affected or hurt by her actions. She also does a great job of exposing the way it truly is in Hollywood – the falseness, the loneliness, how cutthroat it can be. It’s a great read if you’re reading for Pride month too. The multitude of issues and secrets surrounding sexuality in Hollywood is finely presented. All of these secrets and scandals make for some great reading! I thought a great companion book would be Juneby Miranda Beverly-Whittemore. I read June last summer and like it, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is a great summer read! And here is Miranda Beverly-Whittemore saying this about Evelyn Hugo: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo' is Coming to Freeform | Bookstr". bookstr.com. 2019-09-26 . Retrieved 2020-02-10.

Monique is furious and leaves but realizes that Evelyn has told her all this because she intends to end her life. She considers calling authorities but decides that it should be Evelyn's choice if she wants to die. She realizes that she will forgive Evelyn some day. Eventually, Evelyn is found dead, and her death is reported as an accidental overdose. The hype of this book made me very nervous to start reading it in the first place, especially because I essentially knew nothing about it beyond the fact that it was basically an interview with a very famous fictional actress.I hadn’t gone into a book blind in a really long time since I’m always asking for spoilers of everything I read but doing it with this book was one of the best decisions I could have made. Monique’s editor at Vivant. Driven and no-nonsense, Frankie is eager togetthe interview with Evelyn. Their love was expertly done, with all of the fear and paranoia associated with the times, that it truly felt like real life. In The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, present-day Evelyn is a 79-year-old recluse, a far cry from the woman she was as she ruthlessly gained stardom through her films and various personal scandals from the 1950s on. However, she's ready to tell her story to the world — the story of her true self, the glamorous and not-so-glamorous parts of her career, and her marriages — to Monique Grant, a seemingly random and unknown journalist who can't believe she's being offered this opportunity. As they sit together and Monique learns everything she needs to know about the real Evelyn to write the actress's biography, it becomes clear why she was chosen for the job and that it wasn't random at all.She dominated the big screen for more than four decades. Every man wanted her and every woman wanted to be her. Monique is a struggling writer who has been trying to find success for over a decade. She’s in the middle of a separation from her husband, and wanting a distraction, wholeheartedly throws herselfinto researching Evelyn’s life for the interview. Evelyn offers Monique exclusive rights to Evelyn’s very valuable biography, and Monique has no idea why. The book is organized into chronological sections that follow Evelyn’s relationships with each of her seven husbands, punctuated by conversations between Monique and Evelyn during the interview for the biography. You do not know how fast you have been running, how hard you have been working, how truly exhausted you are, until someone stands behind you and says, “It’s OK, you can fall down now. The big question for a woman who married seven times is, of course: who did she love the most? Who was her true love? One guarantee is the answer will be surprising. Lopez, Kirsten (June 29, 2023). POPSUGAR Reading Challenge Prompt(s) I naturally read stories of people different than myself but I've made a concerted effort to spend the small power behind my name blurbing minority voices and I will continue to spend whatever platform I have to champion the work of minority voices. This is what the majority should be doing and it is, first and foremost, where our energy needs to be spent. The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo is rated 15 and up.
