I disagree with the sheer number of poor reviews on this book strictly due to the fact that the readers were unprepared for the disturbing and dark content. For readers who love stories that stretch the bounds of traditional romance, this is a gripping read due to the characters' complex web of fear and desire that keeps them on edge. Her favorite characters are of the morally gray variety and believes that everyone should check their sanity at the door before diving into her stories. Many of Zane’s ideas to “woo” Adeline could be considered cruel, unsafe, and manipulative but I couldn’t resist their palpable attraction and the sex scenes were beyond steamy. He just has an ego where he decides she will do what he wants because he's powerful enough to get it and so it shall be.

First, the main male character, Addie’s stalker, Zade, runs his own company to stop sex traffickers and rapists. This book is unforgettable, sharp, intense and will have you on the edge of your seat right from the start and up until the very end. And to think that I thought I couldn't possibly hate this fmc more and she pulls the 'i'm not like other girls' line. It's just awful and genuinely takes away from the atmosphere the author should be trying to create in these types of books.

Yes, there's triggers, we get it, but everyone can make their own decision on whether to read it or not and people seem extremely focused on that for a book that's been pretty open about the fact that this is not one for the faint of heart.

I will not be manipulated by "okay he does this to her but look at all the girls and women he's saving! My heart drops as I tear my eyes away to look around and see his eyes pinned on me from several directions, it’s the most intense feeling I’ve ever experienced.
