Description

This module aims to introduce students to the fundamental principles of analytical, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry, and to build understanding and insight into the structure, reactivity and physicochemical properties of molecular species.

They will develop skills in considering the hazards of practical work, and simple numerical skills in assessing product yield and/or purity. and to discontinue modules, if such action is reasonably considered to be necessary by the University. The concepts featured can be difficult, but a student would be hard pressed to find material more accessible than this edition. Students will obtain a good understanding of the physical basis of chemical change - including detailed knowledge of the introductory principles of thermodynamics. The outcome of this debate will decide whether this type of book joins others as an available course resource or replaces them.

In the first book Keeler and Wothers wrote together, Why chemical reactions happen, they used, to great effect, an integrated approach to explain chemical reaction phenomena to early stage undergraduates. An understanding of chemistry is necessary to make sense of our world and to address the global challenges faced by our society. The examiners’ reports for each question are made available to the students via the Chemistry web pages. Offering a fresh approach to undergraduate teaching, it depicts the subject as a seamless discipline, showing how organic, inorganic, and physical concepts can be blended together to achieve the common goal of understanding chemical systems. Students will learn the principles of separation science and will use their knowledge to propose appropriate separation techniques for different mixtures of compounds.

Explain and rationalise the structures, stabilities and properties of coordination compounds in terms of factors related to the metal, ligand and metal–ligand bond. Online Resource Centre:For students:· Custom developed multimedia content linked to the book, enabling students to investigate the concepts and phenomena presented in the book in a fully interactive way. The second section includes nine chapters that cover topics commonly taught in first-year courses (and often beyond). To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The module emphasises the development of students' information and communication skills as well as mathematical skills.
