About this deal

Manchester is the perfect city to bring this international collaboration together to highlight how the creative spirit of comic art has celebrated the beautiful game. There might be popups and you might have to wait 20 seconds or something on certain links, but bear in mind these have been scanned by volunteers and finding free files hosts isn't simple, but if you're patient you can fill your (or Billy's) boots.

philcom55 wrote:This is the version of Roy of the Rovers Monthly that picked up where Roy's weekly title left off when it's star lost his foot in a tragic helicopter crash. Eventually the Scorcher and Score was dropped from the title, with "Tiger and Speed" becoming the new name from 1st November 1980. Along with the annual wallcharts with pull out tabs that meant you could move teams up and down the league tables my other memory is when, I think Scorcher and Score , ran the first ever Fantasy League.Always loved the names of the fictional teams they came up with, "Stone Orient", obviously alluding to Leyton Orient proverbial relegation battlers of their day. From September the exhibition will go on tour as well as being part of the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, October 12–14. Comic strips existed in post war newspapers but the stand out launch in British football comics was the "Tiger- The Sport and Adventure Picture Story Weekly" on the 11th of September 1954.

Men's Football Tee, Christmas Gift for Dad, Beer Shirt, Funny Shirt, Holiday Shirt, Comic Shirt, Funny Tee, Holiday T-shirt. According to the British Library "Striker" launched on 10th of January 1970 and ran until 4th March 1972 when it was incorporated into "Inside Football".

I remember the Scoop had this computer league thingy with teams like Glasgow Wanderers and Pool City.

My favourite comic subject, I'am sure I have said in the past, that I'am a big Striker fan and have followed Nick Jarvis' adventures from day one, but I take an interest in all football/sports comics, I started off with Roy of the Rovers which I did enjoy, but looking back the main story and other stories in the comic, probably weren't as good as others, imo, namely Cannon which featured in the Match Weekly for a couple of years in the mid 80's, along with Striker, I think I liked them most because the fictional team played against real teams and featured real players and the story was more real life as they were beaten from time too time, another favourites from my youth were Iron Barr and We are United. In the mid 1990s, under editor Chris Hunt, it overtook Shoot to become the biggest selling football title in Britain, with its weekly sales peaking at 242,000 during this period. The many hours spent by Adam Riches poring through the comics in the National Publication Archives make him the man to fill us in.If you want any other non-football related comics, I can post links to those, too, as most are covered (other than Shoot). Manager Mills is not so taken with Jimmy (“the real footballer” in the family, according to Jack) who he regards as “certainly an eager beaver, a glutton for work … but too much of a lone wolf”. The Ultimate Fantasy Football Team is a distinctive, nostalgic overview of the football comic book phenomenon that has been thoroughly studied to explore the history and the narratives connected with these comics and its heroes.
