The Evil Dead as mentioned is now 30 years old but prepare to be shocked and revolted none-the-less. While brighter than my Elite Entertainment reference copy, the image Anchor Bay provided had too much brown and red in it. At about 17m 10s, you see a zooming close-up shot of the book of the dead, which then should cut to lightning striking a tree, then an exterior shot of the cabin at night, but the Elite version cuts straight from the book, to the shot of the cabin, leaving out the lightning.

Trapped within the twisted, nightmarish corridors, the sisters must fight for their lives and find a way to close the portal before evil engulfs the world. It has a host of special bonus features (see below) including interviews, rare behind the scene footage and commentary by Sam Raimi. These have now been brought together into a boxset with a new fourth disc that, as a package, will prove highly tempting for fans. And the blu was so cheap, too; it was like a budget release except really a top shelf, first class special edition.

In 'Evil Dead 2' (1987) a young couple chance upon the same remote Tennessee cabin as in the original, unleashing the forces of evil with horrific consequences for themselves and their friends. Elite released their laserdisc in 1998 with a commentary by Raimi, Campbell, Greg Nicotero and Scott Spiegel, plus a 30-minute making of and the trailer. But Lions Gate was good enough to come up with new label for it to match the rest of their artwork, which these packs often don't bother with.

Much emphasis has been placed on The Ladies of Evil Dead, which is also the name of disc three where most of the content is placed. And it's hard to say which version looks better, either, as it seems to depend on the shot - some look better matted, some look better composed open. While as of writing, 4K is still moderately new, and the choice is pretty limited, this section will be expanded in the future. e. the 2010 ED 1 that AB first put out and the 2011 25th Anniversary ED2) repackaged into one case, which makes it a pretty sweet deal. The only survivor, Ash (Bruce Campbell, who also starred in the first film), deranged after having to dismember his possessed, dead girlfriend, fights back with a chainsaw.

If you intend on using the disc regularly, you might want to keep it in a separate DVD or jewel CD case instead, as sliding it in and out of the slipcase will build up scratches over time, no matter how careful you are. The standard retail DVD transfer used the world over seems to have been zoomed in by around 5%, meaning the Blu-Ray version has more visual information on each side of the frame.

We're not going to tackle quite as many obsolete older editions this time around, but we're going to look at the definitive editions for both titles and a several older ones to give an overview. Evil Dead' (1980) is Raimi's low-budget gore-fest about a group of American teenage yuppies on holiday in a remote cabin in the Tennessee mountains. It's a 2-disc set (as opposed to both movies on 1 disc), and while I've never actually opened up a copy to 100% confirm, I'm almost certain it's the two Lions Gate blu-rays (i. Unbeknownst to them, the building is a hotbed of demonic activity, and when Emily unwittingly performs a forbidden ritual, she unleashes a malevolent force that infects the entire structure. The small horizontal image loss and large vertical gain means the open matte DVD transfer still probably comes out as the superior framing option overall, although the outstanding vibracy and sharpness of the new Blu-Ray transfer is by far the best Evil Dead II has ever looked. It's just a little annoying that you need to find an older disc of the first Evil Dead to have most of its key special features.
