Description

In Better Late Than Never she seeks to reduce the stigma around diagnosis as an adult, and provides support for anyone who finds themselves in the same situation or thinks they may suffer from ADHD. Lotta Borg Skoglund connects the latest scientific discoveries on ADHD with the compelling lived experiences of girls and women with ADHD, weaving in their personal struggles and their breakthroughs, from childhood and the teen years through to motherhood, menopause and beyond. Brown describes what ADD syndrome is, how it can be recognized at different ages, and how it can best be treated. What women need is solid, evidence-based information grounded in real experience, not generalised New Agey analogies about self acceptance and growing into who you really are. People with ADHD can excel at whatever they choose by utilizing the knowledge found in the books listed above. At a special launch event for this book, some great insights about females with ADHD were shared and I think they are worth passing on here. Near the end of the book, they did present some strategy and even clearly stated that that was not the purpose of this book, but they included some as a bonus. It also discusses how this approach can combine with more traditional therapies, such as medication, for maximal success. In this unique and engaging memoir, Kessler shares her own stories of living with ADHD in a way that is relatable, but never predictable. We highly recommend that everyone reads this book, which is not only for women, mothers or daughters.

At first, I felt so happy to have found this book and chapter 1 was all about how our symptoms often go undiagnosed and how our culture shames us over our ADHD. All the tips, from how to organize your kids’ closets to how to pay your bills on time, are the type of concrete, actionable ideas you need to take control of your life. This was effectively a self help / self esteem book, rather than a book of practical and tactical advice I was hoping it was.

The book consists of over 330 pages with lots of helpful information throughout, but arguably the most important chapter is saved for last. Written in ADHDfriendly style with lots of illustrations and white space, Confessions of an ADDiva is bound to inspire mid-life ADHD women regardless of the challenges they face! Not only is this an easy read, but many of us find comfort in knowing other women have the same struggles as we do. The forthcoming books stand out not only due to the high praise they’ve received from readers but also for the way they tackle ADHD. Released in July 2019, it’s working off of the latest information we have on ADHD and women, although I would still add the second edition of the next book to your must-have list!

In Women with ADHD, you’ll learn about the many signs and symptoms of ADHD that may have gone unnoticed. In this unique guide, you’ll find a groundbreaking approach that blends traditional ADHD treatment with contemporary treatment methods, such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), to help you untangle yourself from the beliefs that have kept you from reaching your potential in life.

This book contains “step-by-step strategies for managing symptoms and reducing their harmful impact. Use these to help you feel more informed, more confident, and more in control — maybe a little less alone, too. A self-guided workbook for women with ADHD that addresses the negative self-talk we so often give ourselves. Family doctor, psychiatrist, and international ADHD expert Lotta Borg Skoglund combines years of experience in the treatment and assessment of ADHD with the powerful testimonies of the women she has encountered along the way, exploring issues such as hormonal changes, emotional regulation, organisation and concentration, relationships, work, and treatment.Written by expert professionals, this book provides comprehensive information about available support for women and girls with ADHD and tips for clinicians and professionals who work with them. No matter your age or lifestyle, this workbook will offer guidance and support as you learn to live better with ADHD.
