Matrix / Runout (B-side runout stamped, variation 16): SHVL 795 B-3 2 AP(unreadble letter or number)) WYWH - I prefer the reissue becaused its EQd a little higher so voices and things sound more realistic than UK originals. UK has a bit more bass because of it and sounds smoother but less in the room. A short concert tour ran from October to November 1971 to promote the album in the United States and Canada, which was the most extensive tour the group had done to that point. The tour was booked by Allen Frey, who continued to organise North American tours for the group throughout the 1970s. [11] Fearless” is another matter. It focuses on the quiet dignity of an “idiot” following his own path up a hill while a crowd jeers from below that he’ll never make the top. As with much of Meddle, the guitar seems to proceed in slow motion, matching his humble climb, a stately ascending riff with ringing open strings that Waters played using an alternate tuning Barrett taught him years earlier. Gilmour takes the lead vocal, and his sleepy delivery—which usually implies a state of stoned beatitude—instead conveys sadness and futility beneath the determination. “Fearless” is among Pink Floyd’s greatest and most moving songs, heartbreaking even as the idiot seems to prevail over the voices that tell him he won’t.

The other songs are pretty good as well – the first three being far better than the last two of Side A, which feel slightly uninspired. And I don't know who decided to put footage of football chants on the end of “Fearless” but it was an incredible decision. Bizarre, yes, but incredible as well. This isn't one of the great Pink Floyd canon albums to me, but it shows that they're getting there. And it's hard to argue with that really, isn't it? We get a taste of that on Fearless as the Liverpool FC iconic supporter chant "You'll Never Walk Alone" features at a couple of points during the song, including the outro. YNWA may be something of a cliche 45 years later, (and I write as most certainly not a fan of that particular football club!) but Floyd obviously saw something in it before it became almost annoyingly ubiquitous. This was some years before the Kop would be watching their heroes clean up trophies both domestically and abroad. Once again, Waters and co were well ahead of their time.MEDDLE ist aus einem Guß und besticht durch die unsterblichen KLassiker ECHOES, ONE OF THESE DAYS, A PILLOW OF WINDS und FEARLESS. Doch auch die beiden Filler SAN TROPEZ und SEAMUS passen voll in's Gesamtbild. Meddle was released on 30 October 1971 in the US, and 11 November in the UK. [nb 2] It was later released as a remastered LP by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, [28] and in April 1989 on their "Ultradisc" gold CD format.
