I really dug People Like Her, but this one was just crap. The premise here is about – you guessed it – a club . . . Sometimes the best way to have a conversation is to broaden the conversation with unexpected book club books. That’s where indies come in! Reese Witherspoon has her name in the credits of some of the most sparkling book-to-screen adaptations to date; including Wild, Big Little Lies, and Little Fires Everywhere. But her love for a great story extends beyond turning it into a hit series. The Club seems to be receiving fairly positive hype, so you might just take my review and opinions with a grain of salt and give this one a shot. Everything being said, I'm still cautiously a fan of Ellery Lloyd, and may give their third novel a read before I make a final decision on them. While flying to visit her daughters in Arizona, Diane meets Mitchell and they strike up a relationship – although she is hesitant because her husband died only a year ago and she has not dated in decades. Vivian spends more time with Arthur, but her fear of commitment makes her keep him at a distance. Carol is frustrated with her husband's refusal to have sex with her, and reading the book makes her realize they are missing something. Sharon starts an online dating account to start dating again.

So there are some people dead on an ultra exclusive island getaway for celebs. We spend the whole book learning what led up to these deaths and why they occurred. In the end I determined that I absolutely didn't even care, even a tiny bit, about any of them. Since 2017, Lez Book Club members have been meeting in London pubs to provide a space for queer women to come together and share LGBT books. But the pivot to virtual book clubs (and virtual everything else) has given founder Eleanore Pratoussy the opportunity to remove all physical boundaries from the group and open up this lit-loving community to queer and trans women, and nonbinary people, all around the world.Overall, it has a very good second half. I'd class this as a good slow burner mystery but not so much a thriller. The Home Group is a glamorous collection of celebrity members' clubs dotted across the globe, where the rich and famous can party hard and then crash out in its five-star suites, far from the prying eyes of fans and the media.

Our Shared Shelf was founded in 2016 by actor Emma Watson as part of her work with UN women. The online book club focused on intersectional feminist literature, including must-read books like The Handmaid’s Tale and powerful memoirs like The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf.As tempers fray and behavior worsens, as things get more sinister by the hour and the body count piles up, some of Island Home's members will begin to wish they'd never made the guest list. I have always been fascinated with the private club and magnet for the celebrity and creative elite, Soho House (even going so far as to try to scheme a way into joining until I learned of the exorbitant membership fee). Having attended Soho House functions as a guest, I always wondered when happened with the inner workings and admissions of such clubs, so this book was basically written for me. The story is told from multiple POVs using the third person narration. There is Jess, who is among the housekeeping staff. Adam, who is the CEO’s brother (Ned), Annie, who is responsible for memberships and later becomes the acting CEO, and Nikki, the personal assistant of Ned. The book has many other characters and needs some focusing so you won’t feel lost. For the size of the book, I do think that there were far more characters than required. Lang, Brent (May 31, 2022). From the author of People Like Her comes a smart and sinister murder mystery set in the secretive world of exclusive celebrity clubs. Every book club is different. When you Google “book club books,” you’re hit with a ton of options. Buzzworthy new releases. Popular “it” books of the season. Literary fiction, romance, mystery, the list goes on. While they may be wide-ranging, they all have on goal in common: to get your members talking. Indie presses and indie authors publish amazing books for book clubs every year, but you may not hear about them. They don’t have the same marketing opportunities (budget especially). When you go into your local bookstore, you’re seeing mostly the books from the same five publishers or their imprints. Ellery Lloyd is a husband and wife writing team who is often noted for their prior work in People Like Her. The Club, however, was not funny like People Like Her. It was really dark, and it could have used some humor to lighten it up. Amanda N'Duka (August 15, 2017). "Don Johnson, Craig T. Nelson, Richard Dreyfuss Cast In 'Book Club' ". Deadline Hollywood. Penske Business Media . Retrieved September 16, 2017.But behind the scenes, tensions are at breaking point: the ambitious and expensive project has pushed the Home Group's CEO and his long-suffering team to their absolute limits. All of them have something to hide—and that's before the beautiful people with their own ugly secrets even set foot on the island. Despite this age of isolation, the New York Public Library has been strengthening its community of readers since April 2020, when it teamed up with US radio station WNYC to launch its online book club. Sometimes, the price point of popular new-releases (often the fodder of book clubs) can put off readers who would otherwise love to join. But all the chosen books for this virtual book club can be read for free through NYPL’s e-reader app, which makes it easy to read any eBook in your library’s collection.
