Monotask Servitors - A Monotask Servitor carries out the most tedious labours within a Space Marine Chapter. Techmarines often replace at least one of this kind of Servitor's hands with a less powerful version of their own Servo-arm manipulators. Monotask Servitors will not hold up long in the gruelling battles Space Marines face, but they can be useful on missions to carry out simple repairs, perform menial labours, and to stand sentry duty. A servitor is the catch-all term applied to a wide class of mindless, cybernetic drones created from a fusion of Human flesh and robotic technology that are used to carry out simple, manual tasks across the Imperium of Man. Servitors were created due to the strict prohibitions against the development or use of machine intelligences according to the tenets of the Cult Mechanicus, whose tech-priests deeply fear the creation of Silica Animus. They believe such artificial general intelligences to be the embodiments of blasphemy against the Omnissiah. Servitors are created by the Adeptus Mechanicus on their Forge Worlds, and supplied to departments of the Adeptus Terra such as the Administratum and to the Inquisition, as well as to military organisations like the Astra Militarum and various Space Marine Chapters. Much of a Sister team’s strength (flamers and melee) is going to be at short range so a mobile force has a better chance of kiting the opposing Sisters team and focusing fire on any long range threats before switching attention to close-range targets before they can close the gap. Servitors make effective battle-line troops, but only when shepherded by a Tech-priest who can engage the raw circuitry of their minds to direct their unthinking aggression. Versatile: While limited in options, Sisters have both shooting and combat strength and answers to both elites and hordes, so you can adapt to different match-ups nicely. Servitors are often used to carry out the more dangerous or laborious duties in the Imperium, such as heavy mining in hostile planetary or asteroid conditions. They also accompany Tech-priest Enginseers on the battlefield with the Astra Militarum, as well as the Space Marines' Techmarines. The fire teams system is a clever way to ensure that teams are balanced even with the options available for loadouts – you can plan (and, in GW’s case, balance) very deliberately around the limited number of options available for team construction much more effectively. It also means fire teams can be shaped around what actually comes in the unit boxes, so that taking up a new faction is much easier – you can just buy one box of the particular unit that is the basis of your fire team and you have the options available to you. The system also has some interesting implications for the future of the game which we’ll discuss later on.
