Description

The omni polar pattern sounds nicely consistent for all source angles and for all frequencies up to about 15kHz, above which it becomes less sensitive at the sides — which is quite normal for a large–diaphragm multi–pattern capsule. The frequency response is pretty flat and well controlled from below 20Hz right up to about 8kHz, where the presence boost provides more detail and airiness. In comparison, the graph for the super–cardioid mode suggests a slightly warmed mid-range and a broader and smoother high–end lift. The expected 120–degree nulls are well defined through the mids between about 200Hz and 2kHz, but fill out noticeably above and below to give around 10–15dB attenuation instead of 20dB plus — although that is still very workable in all but the most demanding situations. The reverse side of the new mic carries pad and filter switches. Photo: Mike CameronRe-engineered, transformerless electronic circuitry has extended the dynamic range of these microphones to around 134dBA by maximising headroom and minimising self noise, the latter down to an impressive 6dBA. To achieve this, the mic requires a full 48V phantom power source that conforms to the DIN/IEC spec, where the phantom voltage is positive with respect to the cable's ground screen.

If a C414 has a gold grille, it has the newer element in it and also has the elevated high-frequency response. Cessna made the most significant changes to the Chancellor when it introduced the 414A. It did away with the extremely complicated and troublesome fuel system of the previous generations and replaced it with wet-wing fuel tanks that were 4.50 ft (1.37 m) longer and held 213 gal (968 l) total. To better manage fuel, a fuel computer was added to the list of available options. Special thanks and a hat tip to Shelby for providing his usual perfect performance in helping me out and assuring prompt shipment and delivery. And, I detect through our ocassional rambling conversations, that he is a great guy as well! But the C414 is more influenced by it because it is highly sensitive. It can capture the sounds in great detail, even the unwanted ones. Build Quality

The sound is highly detailed and stresses immensely on clarity. If you work with highly textured and detailed instruments, you need to go for these microphones. Cessna 414. (n.d.). AOPA. Retrieved October 5, 2021, from https://www.aopa.org/go-fly/aircraft-and-ownership/aircraft-fact-sheets/cessna-414 Polar pattern selection is via a ‘traditional’ four–position slide switch on the rear panel — reminiscent of the older C414 microphones, rather than the sophisticated electronic switching of the current models — and the pattern options are omnidirectional, cardioid, super–cardioid, and figure–of–eight. Two additional slide switches, one on each side of the mic’s body, select a 100Hz 12dB/octave high–pass filter and a 20dB pad. Just below the pad switch, a flush–mounted LED illuminates green when the mic is powered, and flashes red if the level gets within 2dB of overloading the impedance converter — at which point the pad should probably be switched in! The microphone is rated with a maximum SPL capability of 147dB A–weighted, which should cover most eventualities. The slide switches seem quite robust and are easy to adjust despite being recessed into the body to prevent accidental damage. Electret Avenue The pad switch now has 6dB, 12dB, and 18dB settings — as with the pattern selection, this works by changing the polarising voltage on the capsule. Because very high impedances are involved around the capsule itself, any changes made using these switches will take a few seconds to become active. The familiar bass-cut switch has also had a face-lift with 40Hz, 80Hz, or 160Hz settings, as well as off. A slope of over 12dB/octave is used for the lower two settings, while the 160Hz setting has a more gentle 6dB/octave characteristic.

You can also work with three different attenuation levels for better closeup recording of instruments that have high-output levels. The mic also features three different filters for bass cutting to keep the wind noise low. Finding replacement parts for a 414A is not as tough as one would think thanks to its shared parts with the 401 and 421. The popularity of the aircraft ensures that there are enough aftermarket parts that can be bought if used parts are unavailable. Housed in a very similar body to the C314, the C 214 is equally as rugged and suitable for live and studio work. A useful aspect to its flat body design and huge max input level of +153dB is that it can sit inconspicuously in front of a sn a re without fear of damage being caused or the signal being clipped or sat directly in front of a guitar cab with the grille almost touching the spe a ker grille on the cabinet.Thielert AG (September 28, 2007). "CENTURION ENGINES - Cessna 340, 414 & 421". Thielert AG. Archived from the original on September 28, 2007 . Retrieved August 30, 2012. The immediate ancestor to the C414, the C412, was launched in the late ’60s. It did away with the tube as the series transitioned to a FET-based (Field Effect Transistor) design and moved the pad and polar-pattern controls to the body of the microphone for easier access. This microphone only featured three polar patterns (omni, cardioid, and figure-8), which many engineers felt to be insufficient. There was a time in aviation history when aircraft manufacturers were falling over themselves to serve a seemingly insatiable demand for executive-level light twin-engined aircraft. Reaching fever pitch in the 1980s, Cessna had positioned itself well for the demand, offering light twins for almost every conceivable subsection of the market. As it is a highly sensitive microphone, it can also capture any studio noise. Therefore, if you don’t have a sound-treated room, this mic is not the right option for you.

Our unique video gives you the chance to hear how all four models sound on drum overheads, bass, electric and acoustic guitars, male and female vocals, piano and hand percussion — and in a complete mix. There are primarily five different polar patterns on C414, and you can also select and intermediate between any two adjacent patterns. The total polar patterns available with C414 become nine. Five of them are primary and four are hybrid. The five primary polar patterns of C414 are: Omnidirectional

The main complaints seem to be an unnecessarily complicated fuel system requiring a distinct methodology for use. However, most owners report that after a few hours of flying, it requires little thought. 1979 Cessna 414A Chancellor Performance and Handling Specifications Cruise Speed (Kts) The engines were taken from the 402, with the only changes made to the setup were the inclusion of parts for bleed-air cabin pressurization, and different intercoolers. Each engine spun a constant speed, three-blade McCauley propeller.Providing six seats as standard and an optional seventh, the aircraft appeared to private owners needing a comfortable long-range aircraft and corporate or charter organizations shifting people over short legs. With the same fuselage as the 421, the 414 was roomy with huge baggage space. Coupled with smaller engines than the 421, you had an economical transport that could carry a couple of passengers and baggage over 1000 miles or six executives to a day meeting two hours away. h2>
