Description

After 1945 the brewery expanded during an economic boom in the DRC. Stakeholders were more likely to invest, and Bralima decided to implement a decentralized structure. From 1950 to 1958 Bralima decided to retain five breweries in DR Congo: Kinshasa, Boma, Bukavu, Kisangani and Mbandaka.

On tap, this cut through the mild grease in the fries at Frietkoten at the French Market (food court) in Chicago's Ogilvy Transportation Center. I talked a bit with the owner of the beer bar/frite-shop and he told me that the owner of Primus (fourth generation family brewer) came by on a U.S. tour to drum up distributors and told the shop-owner that he was one of the largest outlets for Primus on this side of the Pond. (I saw a dozen people come by and have a Primus-to-go for the train.) across from our brewery, you’ll find Brasserie Brouwershof. Traditionally, this is where the brewery visits come to an end. In addition to our well-known beers, you are able to taste Primus with Yeast: a unique beer with a unique story. __ After World War I, Belgian businessmen came to visit the present Democratic Republic of the Congo to evaluate opportunities to invest in the country. It was understood that the government was interested in producing beer for the local population as the beer produced by the inhabitants themselves caused major health problems. A brewery, which could brew a high quality beer, would improve the current situation. The investors decided to set up a brewery with the support of the Société Congolaise de Banque. On 23 October 1923 the “Brasserie de Léopoldville” (Léopoldville is now Kinshasa) was established for 4.000.000 Congolese francs. The first beer was produced on 27 December 1926. Primus beer is a 5% abv lager that is brewed in Central Africa. It is brewed in Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Burundi and Rwanda. Bralima produces a wide variety of beers and other beverages, including Primus beer, Mützig, Turbo King, Guinness, alcohol-free Maltina, and many soft drinks which are bottled under license of the Coca-Cola Company.Primus Looks typical, unexciting. However, aromas are nicely balanced between sweet malts and a bit of apple. Tastes improve even more with a nice drying from the hops.

Consider this an atypical Euro lager as it has character. Let's call it unusually fruity and friendly. Refreshing, too.Haacht also won a raft of silvers and bronze awards in the competition for its range of speciality Belgian beers. Tongerlo Blond and Super 8 IPA both won silvers, and Super 8 Flandrien a Bronze. The beer is still brewed to the same original recipe, created at the Haacht brewery just outside Brussels, in 1924. Straw in colour, with a rich, dense head. The taste, flavour, and aroma of Primus is slightly sweet, with a touch of bitterness, followed by a dry finish. Pim Vannerom, export manager at Haacht, said: “Previous years have seen the Primus Pilsner win bronze at the World Beer Awards 2015, bronze in the 2020 Brussels Beer Challenge, silver at the 2016 Beer Fest Asia awards, and silver in the Brussels Beer Challenge in 2017.
