About this deal

A crew lead by DogNut travel across London from the Tower to explore and find their missing friends. Along the way they will face dangers and perils, and will change the future forever. Maxie argues with David after the battle, angry that Freak is dead and Achilleus was nearly killed, to which David says he thought they were all on the same team. Maxie replies by saying she is not sure if she wants to be on the same side any more. Meanwhile, Achilleus is being healed by Rose, the palace's lead medic, when he is interrupted by a small kid from the Squatters camp. The boy asks if he can be Achilleus's assistant, to which Achilleus agrees, naming the boy Paddy the Caddie. Trigger warnings: gore, death, violence, death of a child, cannibalism, zombies, seriously y'all there is LOTS of death and violence and gore, death of a parent (in the past), animal death, blood, gun violence, stabbing, mentions of depression and mental health.

One year ago, a mystery disease turned anyone over the ages of fourteen and fifteen into voracious zombie-like creatures, and the surviving children have formed a number of groups to better survive and combat the threat. In Holloway, London, a group in a local Waitrose supermarket have begun to grow increasingly frustrated as children are kidnapped and killed by adults, who appear to be becoming smarter. It felt quite similar to Michael Grant's Gone series a lot of the time - a world where anyone older than 15 is gone and where kids are fighting for survival and to find food and water and a sense of stability - but with a better sense of organisation. The older kids look out for the younger ones and try to keep them safe as much as possible. Despite knowing that there's no one to stop them from smoking or drinking, no one seems to be doing so, perhaps because it would lead to increased vulnerability from the grown ups. I failed to heed my own warning from 2020 and now I have REGRETS. (The book was still fantastic. I just feel queasy now...) Consisting of many practising Christians, they are compared to the Cathedral Kids. They are the only group that doesn't later aid Ed. Their Ascot races team colour is blue.Saint George – The zombie in the St. George's Cross vest. He is far more intelligent than most infected adults, even to the extent of remembering some words, and retaining some memories and some ability to plan for the future. Toward the end of the novel, Saint George creates a plan to hunt down and devour all children. He serves as the main antagonist and Bigger Bad of the book. The others had promised that the countryside would be safer than the city. They were wrong. Now Ella's all-alone except for her silent rescuer, Scarface - and she's not even sure if he's a kid or a grown-up. Disney Hyperion, the series' American publisher, wanted to target the books at a slightly older audience. Consequently, for this publisher's series, the cutoff age for infection was raised from 14 to 16, and some of the characters were aged up accordingly. Additionally, some of the cultural references and terminology unique to the United Kingdom were changed to ones that American readers were more likely to understand. [8] Characters [ edit ] Waitrose group [ edit ] The weather is sunny. DogNut's group leave by boat along the Thames, their boat sinks just next to Parliament and they meet Nicola's group at the Palace of Westminster. They encounter Carl of The Squatters and Ryan Aherne's group of hunters, who save them from the Gym Bunnies and give them better directions. Maxie, Blue and the rest of the Holloway crew aren't the only kids trying to escape the ferocious adults who prey on them.

Whitney – The Morrisons group's second-in-command and a central character in the novel. After the Morrisons and Waitrose groups merge, Whitney strikes up a good friendship with Maxie. Whitney, in the end, also escapes David's rule. Blue – The leader of the Morrisons group and one of the novel's main characters. He explains to Maxie that he was once a bookworm, fat, and not so good with fighting. But after the disease started to affect the adults, and the early kids had all been killed off by the grown-ups, Blue had to learn to fight, and he became a very strong leader. He tells Maxie he likes her but is worried by her feelings for Arran. You know that feeling when you read the first book of a series (although, from my understanding, they don’t follow on? Just the same universe, though I may just be telling you vicious lies) and you get all excited and giddy and you look at every grown up thinking they might eat you? I have it with this book and I’m really excited to read more because if that ending is anything to go on, a lot more scary brilliance this way comes. Tyler Keene - Originally in charge of the group in a factory in the trading estate with his sadistic girlfriend Josa. He was a fat kid with curly hair and an arrogant attitude. "He was a vicious psychopath," and he was also a mean fighter.

The Enemy

The End is the 7th book in the series. Initially Charlie only set out to write three books, but the world of The Enemy expanded way beyond that. The End contains a lot of what the third book in the trilogy was always going to be, but a huge amount happened to grow the world in a kind of concertina fashion between the first and last books. The Tower kids rescue a girl named Tish, who is from St. Paul's Cathedral. Small Sam plans to escape from the Tower of London. Well I originally set out to write three books, but things happened to make me expand that. I had the ideas of what would happen in those three books, but things have expanded in a sort of concertina fashion, with the other books fitting in between the original three. What was going to be the third book is now going to be the seventh book, which is the book I’m writing at the moment, and that is the apocalyptic battle between the army of the kids and they army of the adults. I always knew that’s where I was going to end, and after the first book the second one was going to carry on directly chronologically – it would be the Holloway kids arriving at the Natural History Museum, and Small Sam and The Kid arriving at the Tower of London. The second book was going to be learning what else was going on in London, realizing there’s a growing threat and the kids trying to unite. Disney-Hyperion, the series' American publisher, wanted to target the books at a slightly older audience. As a result, the cutoff age for infection was raised from fourteen to sixteen, and some of the characters were aged up accordingly. Additionally, some of the cultural references and terminology unique to the United Kingdom were changed to ones that American readers were more likely to understand.

Franny – David's head farmer at the palace. She works hard. She wears glasses and overalls, and seems to have feelings for David. Blue - The leader of the Morrison's crew and one of the main characters. He explained to Maxie that he was once a bookworm, and not so good at fighting and being fat. But when the disease started to affect the adults and the early kids all been killed off by the grown-ups, Blue had to learn to fight and become a very strong leader and he said to Maxie as well, that he liked her, but he hadn't mentioned anything before because of Maxie's feelings for Arran. Damien Sullivan - Another of Bam's rugby friends, he is Anthony's brother and is very strong and tough.

Blue, Maxie, Achilleus, Ollie, Lewis and Whitney are kept waiting in a room for David to show up. When he and Jester get arrive, they explain how they want to use St. James's Park for farming ground, but can't as another group of kids called The Squatters have made camp there and refuse to move or help. David wants the Holloway crew to go in as a army and scare or fight The Squatters out. [11] Books 1-3 in the killer series from bestselling author Charlie Higson. The enemy is closer than you think. Chris Marker- A boy originally from Rowhurst, he came to the Natural History Museum with Justin and Brooke. He calls himself "The Libarian", and is writing a book known as " The Chronicles of Survival" about the lives of the kids who survived the initial outbreak and how they have been living. He sees books as the future and likes to lose himself to them, he is likely schizophrenic.
