Don’t be put off though, because Bosch have used their more than a century of experience to create a reliable budget level circular saw. The rear grip has a nice, rubberised texture that makes it easy to hang on to with or without gloves on, and the front handle is a large “T” shape that keeps everything very stable. Brand, as mentioned earlier, is another really important factor to consider for buying Garden Power Tools. You’re also going to want to know how durable the product is, so here we’d advise taking a look at the materials that the Garden Power Tools are made from.

If I was going to buy a cordless saw for working away from the national grid or up a ladder, this would be it. The first task was the most common one. Cross cutting through nice and dry CLS timber. In this case it was 37 mm deep and 135 mm wide. The first cuts were straight across at 0° bevel, then the same at 45°. Guide rail – Make precise, straight cuts with exact guidance thanks to the groove in the sole plate. To make a decent side by side comparison of all the circular saws I’ve tested out, I started with the simplest test and then worked up to something a bit more challenging.Warranty claims: Call Bosch direct to arrange warranty repair Tel: 0344 736 0109 or use the online collection service Moving on from the standard CLS that you’d use to frame a structure, I performed the same tests on some English oak I had milled up a couple of years ago. Much harder than constructional timber, it would prove to be a bigger test for a circular saw. It’s a good thing too that it was stable, because I was forced to push the saw quite hard when ripping through softwood. I’ll put this down to the blade size, as the 1,200 Watt motor should be powerful enough for these sorts of jobs. On the plus side, the guide fence supplied with this saw is excellent. It’s got measurements marked along its length and the guide rail is the longest of the ones I tested. This made it feel extra stable when performing a rip cut. The only problem I found is that when you tighten down the adjustment knob, it makes circular marks in the metal. After a while this could obscure the measurements.

It features a powerful 1200W motor for cutting up to 55mm at 90 o and up to 38mm at 45 o, whilst the cutting depth adjustment means you can work with extra precision. It also features a protective aluminium guard for safety and an ergonomic handle for comfortable working. Features and Benefits The other handy little feature that this saw has is a dust blower. Essentially, it’s a small open port on the front of the blade cover that makes sure dust doesn’t stay on your cut line. I’m always a fan of these little elements that make the job just that little bit more convenient. That leads us nicely into price, where we’re going to spend some time looking at the price of BOSCH PKS 55 Handheld Circular Saw and seeing how that compares to other Garden Power Tools and also looking at the sort of price you can expect to pay for products from Bosch. Then it was on to something that not all the saw blades I have are designed for. Rip cuts along the grain of the wood are much harder, so I made use of the saw guide to see if it kept things straight. This is not intended to be a full statement of your rights under the Consumer Contracts Regulations. How To Return A Product You can also get hold of a guide rail adapter, meaning you can upgrade this to a rail saw quite easily. If you’re planning on making lots of straight cuts, a rail is an incredibly useful tool. It will transform this handheld saw into a precision cutting instrument that’s especially good at cutting big sheet materials.

And seeing as the motor is on the right, you can use a roofing square or other set square to chop a parallel crosscut in no time at all. If you’re ganging up work, it saves a noticeable amount of time. The plastic cut guide at the front of the saw is easy to read and has an accurate feel. You simply line up the straight edge of the little notch, and that’s your cut line. It’s much more intuitive compared with some of the competition. It takes out the guesswork of where the blade will precisely hit the timber. After using the Bosch PKS 55 Circular Saw for several weeks on a variety of projects, I’ve grown to like it more than I thought I would. It might not have the biggest or most powerful motor, but it boasts clever features that I wish the more expensive saws on my list had. If the tool is faulty within 30 days of buying it, we will arrange for its collection at no cost to you and supply a replacement. Please note that during particularly busy periods, it may take a little longer to receive your delivery and our carrier may attempt to deliver to you on a Saturday.

About Bosch

I was also please to see a chunky double sided safety switch. I’m right handed, but if you’re a lefty then working a single button safety can be difficult and sometimes dangerous. It’s little design touches like this that stop left handers from needing to perform hand acrobatics just to get the saw blade spinning. MATERIAL - Fully hardened steel blade body – delivers accuracy and resists bending and deflection for true cuts. Tungsten carbide teeth provide excellent wear and heat resistance. The positive cutting angle provides fast and efficient removal of chips and swarf. The first thing I did with this Bosch PKS 55 Circular Saw is take it out of the box. I’ve always liked Bosch boxes; they’re covered in useful information. But what I really liked was on the inside. In the place of piles of polystyrene was a clever moulded cardboard insert. Not only is it better for the environment, but it held the saw tightly in the box. A good start!
