Description

The C-TEK unit has one extra feature that sets it apart from the NOCO versions: a unique 8-step charging program. This procedure carries out desulfation, soft start tests, analyzes its capacity, reconditions the deep cycle function, and pulse charges the battery to 100% capacity. Only once all 8 steps are complete is the battery charged and ready for use once more. General uses Almost all batteries are sulfated to some degree, and suffering from acid stratification to some degree. The CTEK MXS 5.0 T UK Battery Charger comes with automatic temperature compensation for the best charging performance, even in extreme conditions. The MXS 5.0 is an advanced microprocessor controlled battery charger which gives unrivalled performance for lead acid batteries from 1.2-110Ah.

However, one of his recommendations did apply to all car and motorcycle owners. Namely, the importance of keeping your vehicle’s battery in prime condition. This is something that most of us, presumably, ignore. The truth is, having a well-maintained battery will not only save us a lot of money, but it can save us from a number of other issues, too (imagine your car not starting when you need it the most). It is no surprise that the NOCO models are similar in design (although the Genius10 is near twice the size of the Genius1). The C-TEK MXS 5.0 features the same rectangular design with an on/off button, mode button, and LED display. All three units feature large battery clamps. Key differences between MXS 5.0, Genius10, and Genius1 Design and specifications If your situation requires the car battery to be charged pretty much all the time, the MXS 5.0 charger has got you covered. You can leave it connected, without concern. The quality of the charging voltage and charging current is very important. A high current ripple heats up the battery which has an aging effect on the positive electrode. High voltage ripple could harm other equipment that is connected to the battery. CTEK battery chargers produce very clean voltage and current with low ripple.

Why is this important? Because vehicle batteries come in so many different types and, even more importantly, every battery is in a different state of charge and condition. After originally publishing this review, I got in touch with the CTEK support team with the above questions. Because their answers were so detailed and helpful, I asked them if I could include the answers in my review. It takes 150-350A of battery power just to start your car, shorter journeys drain the battery because the alternator won’t have the time or capability to replace this charge. If you notice that your start/stop function seems to be off, this might be because the battery is not sufficiently charged. Also, if you keep your battery in good condition, you’re less likely to find yourself stranded on the side of the road with a car that won’t start, saving you the cost and inconvenience of breakdown and recovery. And not only that, battery failure can impact your vehicle’s electronics, leading to costly repairs.” A car battery will typically last from 3-5 years, but this number can vary a lot. Many factors affect the life of a battery. There’s a reason CTEK chargers are used for OE equipment by the prestige manufacturers, like Bentley and Porsche. The MXS 5 Is Not Just A Charger, It’s A Healer They connected me with their PR & Communication manager, who kindly approved this, plus she generously offered me to send the CTEK CT5 Protect Bumper and the CTEK Comfort Connect Cig Plug. IMPORTANT: Many newer vehicles are equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) which can measure the charge and discharge voltage and calculate the charge level and the general condition of the battery. If your vehicle has an IBS sensor (the sensor is usually placed next to the negative terminal (-) of the battery) then make sure that the charge voltage goes through the IBS sensor. Failing to charge the battery through the IBS sensor may result in a dead battery due to incorrect measurements by IBS. This is not mentioned in CTEK’s manual – this info can be found only in your car’s manual. Q and A with CTEK Support Team CTEK chargers are spark-proof, reverse-polarity protected, and electronic safe. Accessories for CTEK MXS 5.0 We also looked at the output coming from each battery charger. If you have a decent 150 Ah leisure battery, it may be that it takes a long time to charge up using a low-output charger. However, a battery will draw only what it needs. So it may only draw 10-15 amps if the leisure battery is of average size and has not yet run completely flat. In fact, as it charges, it may draw even less power, dropping down to 6 Amps or less. Even a small drop in charge can compromise battery health, reducing its life span and making replacement necessary. Battery failure can also damage or compromise a vehicle’s electronics, which could be even more costly.

Charging With the CTEK MXS 5

Reconditioning– If the charger determines that the battery is sulfated or otherwise damaged, it may enter a reconditioning stage to attempt to restore the battery to its full capacity. This stage involves a series of high-current charges and discharges to break down the sulfation and help to restore the battery’s performance. A stratified battery cannot store voltage as well as a healthy battery can and behaves like a smaller-capacity battery. When conventionally charged – by the charger or the alternator – only the parts that are still “healthy” will be charged. So, a battery may seem fully charged but can be emptied by one start attempt. Stratification also promotes corrosion on the upper half of the plates and creates sulphation problems at the bottom. As I was winding down the other day, I opened one of my favorite YouTube channels, Harry’s Garage. While I do not consider myself to be a car guy (depending on who you ask), I do enjoy watching car shows and learning about cars.

This is a second test that will determine if the battery can hold a charge. If not, the battery may need to be replaced. If it can, the charger will proceed to step #6.The MXS 5.0 is a fully automatic 8-step charger that delivers selectable 0.8A or 5A to 12V batteries from 1.2-110Ah. The charger is IP 65 rated (splash and dust proof), designed to protect vehicle electronics, non-sparking, reverse polarity protected and short-circuit proof. It also includes a 5 year manufacturer's warranty. Video Documents If you’ve read any of our analysis of CTEK’s battery chargers then you’ll know we’re big fans of their 8-stage charging process. For our money, it’s the best, smartest, most sophisticated there is. Pulsatile maintenance charging– This stage involves a series of short charging and discharging cycles to help maintain the battery’s health and extend its lifespan. Maintaining the battery at 95–100% capacity. The charger monitors the battery voltage and gives a pulse when necessary to keep the battery fully charged Q: If I use the Recond mode on WET or Ca/Ca batteries, should I unplug the battery from the vehicle or can it remain plugged in?
