The 17-track album features previously released material by artists including Ryuichi Sakamoto (whose solo LP Async was one of our favourite albums of 2017) alongside two new songs recorded by Sufjan Stevens for the film. Eventually, Stevens contributed three songs to the soundtrack: "Visions of Gideon", which was used at the end of the film, "Mystery of Love," which was featured in the film's first trailer, and a new rendition of "Futile Devices" with piano. This is my first soundtrack/compilation and I do not envy the engineers who have to source the best quality masters from a variety of artists and genres, but they did a great job. Saying no will not stop you from seeing our ads, but it may make them less relevant or more repetitive.

The film is a love story based on the novel by André Aciman of the same name, with music spanning from classical to post-punk to Italo disco. Guadagnino sought Sufjan's input on the film for his lyricism, both in the voice and the lyrics itself. Perhaps the pressing is so perfect we can hear the imperfections of whatever source file they got for this particular track. It's like there's space for the numbering on the sticker (a considerable blank space where the number should be), but it's just not there.If you hold the album jacket at the right angle you can even see that the yellow text has a matte finish while the rest of the jacket is glossy. To that end, the soundtrack needed to be memorable, dreamy and help portray the Summer of '83 setting. I like the album, for the Sufjan Stevens tracks and the Psychedelic Furs (thankfully using Love My Way and not Pretty in Pink). Luca Guadagnino wanted the film's music to be connected to Elio, a young pianist who likes to transcribe and adapt pieces to get close to Oliver.
