And on this occasion, it is important to understand the history of the 175 years and how they came to begin. Nose: Grain-forward (puffed barley), lemon peel, fresh banana, airy with light fruits and mild floral perfume. A rest in the glass only intensifies the banana notes. Lovely malt aromas. Barley sugars. Orange zest is the predominant fruit. Specifically it brings to mind blood oranges. In the fruit bowl there also appears to be grapefruit (both sweet and sour), raisins and toffee apples. With a bit of that time, that note is joined by some creaminess wand becomes more of a milk chocolate note. Adding those flavours together and it reminds me of the chocolate oranges from Cadbury’s Roses. Maybe even the rose ones (do they exist anymore?) with that sweet little floral note. The dram bitters significantly as the wood takes over (a few tired casks in this batch).

A pleasant highland malt, the best I can say for it is it’s unchallenging. Not a great recommendation for a whisky with a royal charter from no lesser heads of state than Queen Victoria, Edward VIII and George V. One assumes the proximity to Balmoral was the draw rather than superlative quality in the product... To promote responsible drinking and safety they even provided a small bottle to carry the sample so that whoever is driving can also taste the whisky - from the comforts of their own home. After leading the rebellion against the Targaryen dynasty, Robert Baratheon took his seat upon the Iron Throne to rule over the Seven Kingdoms. The Baratheon stag few on banners in the Stormlands and King’s Landing and golden antlered crowns signified absolute power. Over time, the Baratheon lords proved to be better warriors than rulers, and their house now lies in ruins. I bought this as a birthday gift for my husband as it’s one of his favourites. I was very impressed with the service and communication. It actually came the next day, so very happy. Would definitely use this company again. Finish: Short. A reprise of the palate notes, but with a bit of mouth-drying tannin and a wash of mild bitterness. Gone in an instant.
