Mandalorian warriors, [1] also referred to as Mandalorian commandos, [18] were Mandalorian soldiers that embodied Mandalore's warrior heritage and served warrior-centric Mandalorian clans. [13] They used various types of Mandalorian armor, including Mandalorian rally master armor. Mandalorian warriors used the military rank of rally master, [19] and the group Death Watch used a rank insignia. [20] Jaig Eyes were a combat honor that adorned [21] the helmets of Mandalorian warriors. [2] History [ ] Saxon was power-hungry and willing to do whatever it took to end up on the winning side. Under Maul, he anticipated advancement in the Mandalorian leadership ranks, [20] although he was eventually betrayed by the former Sith apprentice. [16] [17] Gar Saxon was a brutal, ruthless, and aggressive Mandalorian. Under Maul he was shown to be very dedicated to the cause despite Maul being an outsider and a Force-user. After Maul's defeat, Saxon again swore loyalty to an outsider, this time the Empire. This led some, such as Sabine Wren, to question whether his true loyalty belonged to Mandalore or himself. This also meant his honor was called into question, preventing him from claiming the title of Mand'alor. Saxon was a fierce and brutal warrior and commander. He took pride in killing the Protectors for colluding with the rebellion and was determined to kill their leader Fenn Rau. Saxon was a ruthless and impatient interrogator who was not above using violence to extract results. He was an extremely cunning and manipulative leader. [6]

Saxon then deployed a new weapon against several Mandalorians under Ursa and Tristan. The weapon vaporized all the warriors except the Wrens. Saxon and Hark later set up a trap to capture the weapon's original creator, Sabine. At first, Saxon and Hark were able to force Sabine to enhance the weapon's range, but she was able to modify it to target Saxon's and his stormtroopers' armor. After Sabine destroyed the weapon, Saxon was killed as his Star Destroyer blew up. [3] Legacy [ ] Further into the siege, Maul sent Saxon and his commandos into a final confrontation as he dueled Tano in the Royal Palace. As the commandos began to be overrun, Saxon requested reinforcements, but Maul declined and told the commando to "die well," abandoning his forces. The surviving super commandos were captured by the victorious Republic and Mandalorian forces and the siege ended in a defeat for Maul and his commandos after the renegade Sith Lord was defeated by Tano and captured. [9] Legacy [ ] The appearance of Mandalorian super commandos in Ahsoka episode 5 is significant, as it marks the first time they have been shown in live-action and suggests that future appearances may be limited due to their short-lived existence and subsequent transition to Imperial super commandos. The helmet of an Imperial Super Commando was seen at Aunt Z's Tavern on the Colossus during the New Republic Era. [11] Behind the scenes [ ] As one might guess from their formidable armor, the Mandalorians began as a group built around conquering others. From their homeworld of Mandalore near the outer reaches of the galaxy, they expanded to many other star systems. One of the most famous of these is Concord Dawn, a name which has survived several different continuity shuffles. These conquered planets became the Mandalore sector. While the Mandalorians also took over other worlds outside of it, this sector was their base of power for most of galactic history. This era of Mandalorian history was completely rewritten for The Clone Wars animated series. Although both were ostensibly part of the pre-Disney canon, the television show took priority over what had been previously established in the Legends timeline — primarily that the Mandalorians had fought alongside the Separatists against the Republic during the Clone Wars. Unsurprisingly, the retconned pacifist New Mandalorians established in The Clone Wars were, for a short time , a new and controversial idea in Star Wars fandom. The Dark Times Before the Siege of Mandalore, Maul challenged and killed Pre Vizsla, rightfully claiming the Darksaber in the process. Nevertheless, while many Mandalorians honored Maul’s claim and allowed him to assume the throne of Mandalore, others—such as Bo-Katan and her Nite Owls—split off and rebelled against him, claiming that an outsider to Mandalore could never rule. The Mandalorians who stayed loyal to Maul became the same super commandos seen in Ahsoka episode 5. Many of them added horns and red paint to their armor to proudly display their new allegiance to the deposed Sith Lord. After the Mandalorian Civil War, the New Mandalorians led by Duchess Satine Kryze adopted and created a pacifist society, a sharp turn from Mandalore's warrior culture. Those who did not accept were exiled to Concordia, and by the time of the Clone Wars were thought to have died out. In reality, however, warriors were still active and grouped into the organization known as Death Watch, which was secretly led by Pre Vizsla. The Mandalorian bounty hunter and foundling Jango Fett, who participated in the Mandalorian Civil Wars, was a famous individual who wore a distinctive set of Mandalorian armor, although the New Mandalorian government did not know how he obtained it. [11] Death Watch was active throughout the Clone Wars, eventually joining the Shadow Collective led by Maul and overthrew the New Mandalorian government and civil war erupted once again. [5]

As a female member of the human species, [2] Kast had brown hair, blue eyes, [4] and fair skin. [2] By the time of the Siege of Mandalore, Kast had purple hair. [5] Equipment [ ] It remains to be seen if this warrior race will ever be able to regroup and grow its numbers — the foundlings they protect and raise as Mandalorians may be their last hope — but now that this tribe is out in the open after the climax of episode 3, who knows what might be next for the group. Hopefully, the show will continue to explore more about this culture and perhaps even open a path for them to return to Mandalore. Mandalorians had a code of honor unique to themselves, mostly based around martial traditions. Single combat could be used to settle disputes, and facing strong opponents was considered the most noble possible path in life. They were as comfortable with hand-to-hand combat as with blasters. The Darksaber, a custom lightsaber created by Mand’alor Tarre Vizsla, a Mandalorian Jedi, would later become a signature weapon in the hands of the planet’s leadership in the time of the Empire.

The 501st is led into battle by CC-7567 Captain Rex as the Secondary unit with his trusty 501st Clone Troopers as his Supporting unit. Clan Kryze Mandalorians bring Skirmish Tactics to the table and this stance is somewhat unique because you get 2 different starting nodes in the combat tree. Right off the bat you get the choice of a shove or a pinned condition. Once you hit your third node you get another choice of either disarmed or exposed conditions. Sprinkle in a few shoves and that’s a good looking tree. Defensively they only get 4 defense dice in melee but that does go up to 5 at ranged. For ranged combat they get 6 dice at range 4 (which will more likely be 8 with the free focus and sharpshooter). In Melee, they only roll 5 and their expertise starts really slow at only 1 success but getting 2 crits for 3 expertise results isn’t too bad. Separatists Close Support is Bo-Katan’s stance card which has a combat tree with early branching to provide options with access to a lot of shoves, an easy pin, and extra mobility. Defensively Bo-Katan only rolls 4 dice at range and melee but her defensive innate abilities help to compensate for this. At range 4 Bo-Katan gets to roll 6 dice and in melee she rolls 7 (these will more likely be 7 and 8 respectively with the free focus). At both melee and range Bo-Katan gets the same expertise chart which get access to a crit at 2 expertise and has the potential for 2 crits and damage at 4 expertise. In 2 BBY, [9] after Saxon and his Super Commandos massacred the Mandalorian Protectors of Concord Dawn to punish their leader Fenn Rau for secretly allowing the rebellion safe passage through the Concord Dawn system, Saxon and his Super Commandos ambushed the Spectres Sabine, Ezra Bridger, and Chopper at the Protectors Camp on the Third moon of Concord Dawn. Following a skirmish, the Spectres managed to escape with the help of Rau. [1]

As the Republic forces entered the sewage ports themselves, Saxon, Kast, and several other super commandos waited in hiding to spring their trap. Seeing that they were in an optimal position, Kast sprung the trap, firing an explosive at the Republic forces, disorienting them for a moment before they charged towards the super commandos. The super commandos easily outmatched the clones, and as Tano reached a clearing in the ports, attempting to regroup with her forces, the super commandos surrounded her, and Maul emerged from hiding to confront her. [15] Saxon was a human male [3] who had light skin [5] and gray eyes. [6] By his governorship, his hair color had changed from blond [5] to gray. [6] Skills and abilities [ ] A human female [2] born on the Outer Rim planet Mandalore, Rook Kast was the leader of the Mandalorian super commandos [1]—Mandalorian soldiers who served the Sith Lord Maul [8] and were a part of his criminal alliance, the Shadow Collective, during the Clone Wars. [9] Following the dissolution of the Shadow Collective, Gar Saxon once again joined an outside regime by siding with the Galactic Empire. Desiring power for himself, Saxon collaborated with the Empire [18] and around 6 BBY [2] was pardoned and installed as Governor of Mandalore by Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine [11] and leader of the Imperial Super Commandos, [2] Mandalorians who served the Empire. As proxies of the Empire, Saxon and his Imperial Super Commandos enforced the Empire's will on Mandalore. As Viceroy, Saxon donned a variant of the Super Commando armor that was distinct from the rest, with large patches of red on the suit and helmet. The Mandalorian Super Commandos cost 4PC with 0 force points, 8 stamina, and 2 durability which puts them in the average making them easy to list build with and fine from a health standpoint. In the year 19 BBY, [10] after Maul was bested in combat by his former master, Darth Sidious, [8] he was imprisoned in the Spire, a Confederacy of Independent Systems prison on the planet Stygeon Prime. Kast and Commander Gar Saxon followed Sidious and Maul to Stygeon, and were tasked by Mandalorian Prime Minister Almec, [7] whom Maul had selected as the public leader of Mandalore after his takeover of the planet, [11] with infiltrating the Spire and rescuing Maul.

More droids coming this way. They're still down the corridor." ―Rook Kast sights incoming battle droids within the Spire [7] Gar Saxon, Merciless Commander takes the role of the Mandalorian Super Commando Secondary and leads his Supporting Mandalorian Super Commandos into battle. Bo-Katan Kryze helps to lead the charge in the siege of Mandalore as a Secondary unit with her supporting unit of Clan Kryze Mandalorians. The super commandos utilized the same type of armor as the rest of the Mandalorians. However, their armor was primarily colored red, and at least one commando had a helmet modified to incorporate horn-like growths in honor of Maul and Opress. A large number of them had clawed handprints over their helmets, similar to the handprint of Rishi eel blood on clone trooper Echo's chestplate. The Mandaloriantakes place five years after Return of the Jedi. The Rebel Alliance has become the New Republic and has ousted the remnants of the Empire from most of the galaxy. Only Imperial warlords and smaller cells of the Emperor’s forces remain, and mostly in the Outer Rim where the New Republic doesn’t yet have enough pull.

Gar Saxon costs 4PC with 0 force points, 9 stamina, and 2 durability. This appears to be the average in the core set and not much else to say about it. Despite being some of the coolest Mandalorians, Ahsoka episode 5 marks the first time Mandalorian super commandos have appeared in live-action. This is mostly due to the fact that very little live-action Star Wars material has covered content from The Clone Wars. Another reason they’ve never shown up is the in-universe short amount of time they existed. Darth Maul ruled Mandalore for less than a year, and while there were many Mandalorians who chose to follow him, most of were captured or killed during Ahsoka and Bo-Katan’s Siege.
