I just love the characters, especially Frances' mom. She's the best. And even though you won't like the evil Mom-next-door, she's someone you'll recognise from your non-book life. Waterstones Book of the Year shortlist announced". Books+Publishing. 28 October 2022 . Retrieved 28 October 2022. The only thing I can criticise - and where I had to take away half a star - is the clichéd drama. But that shall be forgiven. 99% of books have that moment where you roll your eyes because of some big misunderstanding, where you know that if they'd just talk, it could be sorted out in a minute. This character Lucas gets introduced and he and Tori used to be best friends. So he starts talking about how much she's changed since he last knew her, and she decides to be all snappy and bitchy to him, just because. In fact, she seems pretty snappy to him throughout the whole book (that I read). But poor Lucas was never anything but nice. That's what I thought when I listened to my first podcast episode: it makes you want to fall asleep (in the best way possible). This isn’t a book about happy people. I don’t even think this book was made for happy people, they would dislike it, say everything inside this book is utter bullshit. But it isn’t. It’s the absolute truth. Aled decides to restart Universe City. The book ends with Aled performing Universe City live at Live!Video.

Overall, I enjoy how the plot revolves around a particularly stressful transitional period in life that is often riddled with confusion about what’s right. Having different characters make different choices and also change their mind is not only relatable, it is relieving. I kind of wished I had read this book sooner, I think it might have helped me with my own anxiety about university and the future in general. Characters Being clever was, after all, my primary source of self-esteem. I’m a very sad person, in all senses of the word, but at least I was going to get into university.” I was going to be happy. Wasn’t I? I was. Uni, job, money, happiness. That’s what you do. That’s the formula. Everyone knows that. I knew that.”The book wastes no words. The book gives importance to every character involved. The writing style is simple and maintains an uninterrupted flow till the end. The character representation is diverse and perfect. The character development is so wholesome and the chemistry so relevantly realistically strong. The plot is direct and consuming. The ending is simply satisfying. Everything from the beginning was set up well and the whole book answers everything in itself. On 20 May 2022, Netflix announced that the series was being recommissioned for a second and third season. [30]

Okay, I admit it: There was a moment when I wanted to punch Carys in the face! I mean if it would have been my brother suffering so much I would have run to him in a heartbeat. But then again she thought that she was the problem and that Aled would be fine. Thankfully Frances could persuade her to seek him out and the moment she realized her mother was destroying Aled she became the lioness I wanted her to be! XD I loved how she defended Aled and that she gave her mother a run for her money because quite honestly this was what I wanted her to do the entire book! I’m so glad Aled and her reconciled and I was glad Frances and Carys got a chance to talk about the night she vanished. trigger warnings: parental abuse (emotional, hair cutting being the most physical), alcohol use/getting drunk, depression and suicidal implications Carys ran away from home after her year 11 results day, perhaps because of her poor relationship with her mum and her mum's reaction to her terrible grades. Frances mentions throughout the novel that she blames herself for Carys running away because Frances kissed her and Carys reacted badly. Aled's story about his mum burning Carys' clothes is the piece of the puzzle that finally helps Frances to work out February Friday because of references to fire in Universe City. Because Frances knows that this whole time Aled has been trying to reach out to Carys, who he hasn't heard from since she disappeared, Frances decides that the best way to help Aled is to find Carys and get her to help him. I first heard about Solitaire on Tumblr. I've been following Alice Oseman ever since and I desperately wanted to read her novel. So when I finally, finally! found it at the library I think I maybe made some loud joyful sound and hugged it...yeah. Evans, Tomos. Archived from the original on 29 June 2020 . Retrieved 4 June 2022. Above all else, this is a book about a group of characters learning to love each other and themselves. There’s so much found family and the Skwad of five formed at the end of the book is literally?? amazing.
