The pacing in the last two installments versus An Unexpected Journey was smoother and, I found myself engrossed in the plot, and the characters both old and new. To sum up my feelings on these films both in their theatrical form as well as their extended editions, it would be fair to say that I thoroughly them, reveling in the epic scope, familiarity and Peter Jackson’s flair for storytelling. The slow building narrative includes snippets of humor, engaging banter and elements of drama/action. The pacing versus “An unexpected journey” was smoother and I found myself engrossed in the plot, the action and the characters both old and new. The action develops quickly, the main adversary Azog (Manu Bennett), an albino and the leader of the orcs, is introduced into the plot, which is only mentioned in the book in passing.

The Hobbit 4K Review: Finally the Trilogy Looks Like Real Movies

I can imagine revisiting these films at some point in the future, but not with the same frequency as the original trilogy. He is not torn by internal problems like Frodo, he is not unresponsive like Samwise, or comical like Merry and / or Pippin. For those not familiar with the details regarding Ultra HD Blu-ray you can refer to my article that includes some pertinent data on the subject. The film was shot that way, after all, and I know there are fans of the format that wish it took off. Nobody can match our obsession and experience when it comes to disc-to-digital home media solutions. The only problem with a 50p version is whether all '60Hz' territories would be geared up to properly play the disc as 25p/50p support for UHD is only mandatory for historical 50Hz territories, not for all players. Although many may disagree with this, he is the strongest hero of the saga: a simple, decent and decent, albeit somewhat conservative fellow, who draws his ingenuity from a deep well of his own inner strength.

Alone with Gollum on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo not only discovers guile and courage that surprise him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities, tied to the fate of all Middle-Earth. Here, for a while, Andy Serkis's Gollum reappears, another of the strongest characters in the saga (although many, again, would disagree). I haven’t watched the hobbit since its release but I really enjoyed the hobbit and moreso than LOTR 😬 a lot more action and things to hold your interest. If you’ve seen the imagery of the Dwarven mines that introduce ‘An Unexpected Journey’ you’ll know what I mean.even more realistic, and the Riddles in the Dark sequence with Gollum showcases dramatic increases in detail in the background. Both films from Ang Lees filmography are shooted in HFR but the sets are used are to much simplified and realistic. Peter Jackson oversaw the remastering himself, and I can say that working with Peter was the adventure of a lifetime, and the friendships that I made will last forever.

That scene is followed by A zog’s ambush of the company where there is a nice transition from daylight to moonlight by the cinematographer and color graders that allows the impending fires to contrast against a greyish backdrop (see the screenshot for reference). You can download them, upload them to the media, and watch them on your TV, Ultra HD Premium movie format specially for your TV. There seems to be more soft imagery in The Hobbit films though, which seems odd because the shots are likely extremely sharp sources before being softened.

Review of The Hobbit Trilogy on 4k Ultra HD Blu-ray

Like my experience with the LOTR in Ultra HD, there were times where I was floored by just good the imagery was. I am not certain what direction that aspect of the story will take, perhaps it goes nowhere, which is why it was omitted.Again, in 4K this stuff looks pretty stunning, but looks only go so far when you don’t care at all about the characters at the center.
