Description

As touched on earlier, this is the first Kobo eReader that’s made from recycled plastics and, wow, it truly doesn’t look or feel any different (in a good way). I can definitely get behind an eReader with a sustainable agenda.

Navigating through the library is simple on the Kobo Clara 2E. You can filter, sort and switch between categories to find what you're after. (Image credit: Future)This eReader possesses a 300PPI resolution, which is much higher than what other Kobo eReaders offer – such as the Nia, which sits at 212PPI. Considering that this is one of the latest processors Kobo has on offer, it’s a pretty irritating quirk to adjust to. That said, I’ve found that it didn’t impact the quality of my read. Adapt, evolve, overcome and all that jazz. On the plus side, customising its settings is intuitive and easy to remember. Listening to audiobooks I’m listening to A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas, one of my favourite fantasy novels. Image: Isabella Noyes/Gizmodo Australia Despite a stale design, the Kobo Clara 2E has made some overall great improvements where it really counts – a snappier screen, waterproofing, a little splash of color and the use of recycled material. The one big upset with this device was its erratic battery. Whether this will get fixed in a future firmware update remains to be seen, but until then, this could be a bit hit and miss.

It's easy to grip the Kobo Clara 2E thanks to the raised bezels around the screen. Gadgets & Smart Home Whether it’s a drone, a smart vacuum or noise cancelling headphones you are looking to buy, our reviewers have tried and tested it before you have to. PC & Peripheral All you need to know on the latest PC releases and whether they’re worth their dime.

While the navigation lag could use another update, once you’re invested in a book, it’s easy to overlook. I still enjoyed a comfortable reading experience with the Clara’s surprisingly digestible screen size, temperature control and portability. Car Our revheads bring you all you need to know on the coolest electric vehicles and sports cars available on the market. If you’re reading a novel full of text, you won’t notice a difference in its resolution unless you study the book covers or read one with illustrations interspersed through it. Over the next few weeks, the battery issues seemed to smooth over. Used for just over an hour each work day, both listening and reading, we got it down to 48% after about two weeks, indicating that the battery could just be settling down after initial hiccups.

The Clara 2E also improves on the former Clara HD with a next-generation processor, double the internal storage capacity, audiobook functionality and Bluetooth connectivity. Some features remain unchanged such as its file format compatibility, as well as its light and font customisation options. Not only that, the fact that you can access ebooks from a public library is a big selling point – this, however, is contingent on the fact that your library of choice has OverDrive support (which many do in several countries). This is simple to use and all you need is your library card number to set up, then head to the OverDrive feature easily found on the device’s home screen. Camera Here you’ll find expert opinions on the latest cameras from Canon, Nikon, Sony and plenty more. It’s awfully vague that Kobo advertises “weeks of battery life”, but I found that by reading for a couple of hours each day I depleted the battery in about eight days. This did include leaving it on Sleep mode and listening to an audiobook for about two hours while using Bluetooth. The first time top-up took 3.5 hours to go to 100% when plugged into a computer. After that, though, the battery drained down to 0% in five days with the same settings and same amount of time spent with the device. In a weird twist, plugging it in for a charge showed there was still 35% left. We’re really not sure what happened there, but we didn’t encounter this issue again (thankfully).
