Zoe's parents left on a supply ship without realising Zoe was still on the island. She manages to flee Norwich on a derelict boat called Lyca. Zoe makes it to another island where she is faced with more danger. This story delves into Zoe's adventures where she meets lots of fascinating characters along the way. The historical context of most of your novels must mean a huge amount of research prior to writing each book. What does this involve and how long does it take? This is essential reading for it paints a vivid picture of what life may well be like in the not too distant future if we don’t do something NOW about global warming. Rest assured though it’s not a rant about that but the author brilliantly interweaves our possible future into an utterly compelling story. Many of your novels are inspired by history and by myth and legend - have these areas always been a fascination of yours since childhood and if so how did this passion come about?

This was hailed as one of the most extraordinary debuts when it was first published in 2000. Set in the near future on the east coast of England that has been reclaimed by the sea it tells the story of a girl who, having been mistakenly left behind by her parents escaping from the flood, she heads off to find them but ends up in the hands of a mob of nasty men on a small island. To help teach the lessons, there are 101 SMART Notebook screens (in one file) for the teaching sequence and each lesson is clearly marked, along with details about which chapter should be read with each of the lessons. With both your publisher and author hat on, what advice can you give would-be children's authors in getting published? This book takes a look at one of the possible futures in our path if we continue on the destructive route humans are currently on.

But Eels Island, whose raggle-taggle inhabitants are dominated by the strange boy Dooby, is full of danger too.The belief that she will one day find her parents spurs Zoe on to a dramatic escape in a story of courage and determination that leads to an unexpected and touching conclusion. In his spare time, was also a stone carver and wood engraver and illustrated all his novels. Marcus was also an enthusiastic drummer. I love music, both listening to it and playing it (I'm a drummer). A day without music is not a proper day... I also love travel and try to travel as much as I can manage. Set in a world that has suffered from the Ice caps melting, we are taken on a journey that looks at what the world might be like if everywhere flooded. It reminded me of zombie apocalypse films where humanity either turns on each other or works together...

What age did you first start writing and when did you think that one day you'd write a novel that would actually be published? The main idea of the book which is global warming, gives the children a perspective about how the future would be if humans keep on neglecting the environmental issues. I enjoyed listening to the children's interesting discussions about how we can reduce the effects by changing our behavior. I am teaching this to my year 6 class and it has been a great success as it totally engages its readers and is topical and relevant. The pacing was fast, choppy even at times and the narrative quite disjointed. the ending came with a large dose of skepticism on my part as it was unbelievable and unsatisfactory. Recommended for ages 10 to 13, this book falls into the category of "Surviving Environmental Catastrophes." Set in the near future, global warming has caused the Earth's sea levels to rise and flood the coastal nations around the world. Zoe's family is last to leave their flooded town in England, and she is sadly separated from her parents as they get on the last boats. She is fortunate to uncover a small rowboat submerged in the mud, and fixes it up so she can escape her town and find her parents. Zoe faces many challenges on her journey, particularly when stopping at a small "island" of an old cathedral that is overrun with wild children competing for space and resources.

There’s a possibility that he’s stuffed, I guess. Home > What if the sea began to rise . . . and rise . . . until the land began to disappear? A brilliant futuristic fantasy by an acclaimed new writer. I write at the weekends, and mostly in the study in my loft, but also sometimes I travel to write - eg much of Revolver was written on trips to Sweden. It was a single line, the first line in the book in fact. I'd had it for ages but didn't know where I was going to use it until the character of Edgar came along: "I suspect I may have fleas again".Zoe ends up on an island (called isle of the Eels) which is run by a sinister boy named Dooby, who holds an unpleasant control over all left on the island. Floodland is an interesting story about a young girl called Zoe who lives on a deserted island, Norwich. Norwich is deserted because of high sea levels. Floodland has a powerful and emotive theme, handled with warmth and humanity. About This Edition ISBN: I fell in love with this story. Based in a post apocalyptic world (the future of the world if global warming keeps happening) it approaches many themes.
