As the plot trods on, it loses all credibility as it continuously attempts to make a 9 year old into Wonder-woman all of the way to the climactic final scene.

At a certain point, events began to drag, and I grew bored while waiting for the final showdown that I knew was coming. The wife kept reminding us that she was a psychologist but failed to show much constructive thinking and was overly dependent on others.

As a result, Iris launches her own investigation to discover the reasons that led her spouse to his intimidating death. If you like family dramas and women's fiction with only a bit of mystery then you can give this a read. Thank you to Park Row for providing me with a widget of the ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Clever and rebellious, Beatrice is a great character who makes a few impressive moves and faces the attack like a boss. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. Sometimes predictable, but with a relatable narrator who "bares her soul" to you, with lines like that, it held my interest from start to finish. Throughout the book, readers are teased with "the secret" that threatened to tear Stella's world apart should people, particularly Georgie, were to find out. This psychological thriller is an addictive read because of the gradual momentum that builds throughout the story. Think about the movies Panic Room meets Funny Games: home invasion by dangerous intruder who threatens a woman and two children’s lives while her darling husband shared secrets bigger than my grandiose TBR list!

On the other hand, Cam, the proud celebrity chief, was much harder to root for - especially since he is shown to be somewhat self-centred and selfish. Before he died, it seems, Felix Vodyanov was linked to a passenger ferry that sank in 1994, an even earlier U.

The growth of Stella was beautiful to see and the whole the truth shall set you free cliche definitely happened here. Jade and her children are held hostage while Cam has three hours to deliver the money and save his family. My biggest issue was that the writing overly-explaining everything and was predictable – something that I struggle with my own writing as well.

I was hoping that the rest of the book would be as anxiety ridden as the first few chapters but I’m glad I stayed with it. The author deftly explores the unexpected consequences for the giver as well as for the person on the receiving end of a surprise gift. then she also enlists the help of her brother Dave which makes for a really good plot he is so devoted to Iris he won't stop till he finds the truth, its not until he finds out about Corbin Hayes who was his friend from the gym that things start to heat up, Iris then receives text messages saying its from Will BUT HOW CAN IT BE WHEN WILL IS SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD!
