Description

The threaded part(s) of plumbing fittings are usually made to a British Standard Pipe Thread size (BSP).

The hexagon bush collection includes stainless steel reducing bush suitable for various applications. Sizes range from 1/4” to 4”. Inch BSP - Outlet thread on 3/4 inch outside tap (we have a 7/8 inch BSP brass garden hose connector). BES has all the steel fittings you need, from screwed stainless steel elbows to hose tail adaptors. Some of the most popular product types within this range would include:G is the international standard shorthand for BSPP - BSP Parallel threads. R is the standard for BSPT - BSP Tapered. Parallel (G) threads are used where the seal is made on a mating face, like inside a cast iron radiator with the aid of a gasket. Tapered fittings achieve a tight thread-to-thread seal with the help of a little sealant such as PTFE tape or hemp and Boss White. Right first time BSP sizes don't match up with what you measure on the scale of a ruler, which can obviously cause some confusion. For example a 1/2 inch BSP thread (see above) actually measures more like 3/4 inch with a ruler. It is not recommended to run within the maximum pressure limits for prolonged periods of time as this can severely deteriorate the hose and fittings life span.

At certain sizes, NPT and BSP share the same number of threads per inch - at ½" and ¾" - but at all other sizes the two are quite different. The table below lists the TPI for both NPT and BSP at sizes commonly used with domestic radiators. NominalNPT has flattened peaks and troughs where BSP is rounded. NPT has a thread angle of 60º where BSP is 55º. Just to confuse things, often the T in BSPT refers to Thread and doesn't indicate either Taper or Parallel. We are often asked why malleable iron fittings are so popular. Malleable iron fittings are heavier than standard pipe fittings; they have good thermal expansion and vibration damping properties and do not break during assembly. Malleable iron fittings at your door in no time this can vary. Smaller sizes can be 1.0mm thread pitch, and larger sizes can be 2.0mm thread pitch. Other variations One of the most commonly used pipe fittings, stainless steel tees are used to adjust the flow rate and change direction. Our steel tees come in sizes ranging from 1/8” to 4”. The right steel fittings for your needs

The size was originally based on the inside diameter, measured in inches, of a steel pipe for which the thread was intended. This is the source of the confusion, as people incorrectly think the size refers to the outside diameter of the male thread. Using the table below we can see that a thread measuring 1/2" is actually a 1/4" BSP thread. Similarly, a thread Brass pipe fittings are suitable for connecting copper tubes, stainless steel tubes and plastic pipes that have compatible outside diameters. Pipe fittings have various connection types including compression, push fit, threaded and solder and are ideal for all plumbing work. Taper threads, British Standard Pipe Taper thread (BSPT). These are sometimes denoted by the letter R, for example R 1/2" means a taper 1/2 inch BSP thread.

Why are some brass fittings nickel plated?

RS have a great range of pipe fittings which are easy to use and can change the direction of the water flow. Pipe fittings offer watertight seals making them essential for plumbing and pipeline applications. What are threaded pipe fittings?
