Supplies of this camera were also limited after the destruction of some Nikon manufacturing facilities in Thailand by the flooding in October 2011. Quality, high-ISO performance can also enhance your movie shooting, allowing you to capture the mood of a scene using only available light. Either you are a novice or experienced, this is one of the best semi-pro DSLR you get in this range. This camera is equipped with the 2,016-pixel RGB metering sensor that can enable you to plan out and capture some of the best shots possible.

Full HD D-Movie with AF-F modes and in-camera editing functions to choose the start and end points of your movies and save individual frames as still images. The camera is capable of high quality movies thanks to the D-Movie function for high definition videos at 1080 p and at 24 frames per second. Active D-Lighting and Active D-Lighting bracketing; also D-Lighting which can be applied to a JPEG using an Image Editing feature in Playback mode; Nikon Capture NX and View software include tools for applying D-Lighting to NEF format photos. Unlike the D90, the D7000 can also maintain AF during live view and movie shooting, thanks to its AF-F ('full time') AF mode. As the D7000’s optical viewfinder is large, clear and offers 100 per cent frame coverage we otherwise didn’t actually find ourselves utilising the 3-inch LCD for Live View that much.

Here are some general test shots taken with the Nikon D7000 and 18-105mm lens as stated to give an idea of performance ability when it comes to image quality, dynamic range, colour rendition and the focal range of the respective optic. The D7000 is equipped to help you create impressive cinematic masterpieces with Full HD 1080p and movie editing functions for exceptional scene reproduction and quality. The newest generation image processing engine, EXPEED 2, is capable of performing multiple tasks with more speed and power. This close up interior wide angle shot taken with the Nikon D7000 and lit only with natural daylight reveals bags of crisp detail, but tell tale barrel distortion witnessed in the apparently leaning bottles to the left side of frame. If not wanted, the metering can be changed with exposure compensation, two-point (average) metering, metering on the bright lights or use of center-weighted or spot metering, fill flash or RAW images. This way, the renowned 3D Color Matrix Metering II delivers exposure results that are faithful to how you see light and shadow interplay, even in difficult lighting situations.

About a third larger again than its maker’s equally new D3100 DSLR for beginners, the D7000 feels weighty with or without any optic attached at a body only 690g, so attaching the provided shoulder strap is a practical necessity if you’re going to be lugging it around most of the day. Shoot up to 6 fps or record every second of the action with full HD 1080p D-Movies with Nikon’s advanced autofocus system to impress and inspire.

The D7000 offers numerous professional-style features over the D90, such as magnesium alloy body construction, weather and moisture sealing, a 2,016-segment color exposure meter, built-in timed interval exposure features, 39 rather than 11 focus points, dual SD memory card slots, virtual horizon (in live view and viewfinder) and compatibility with older non-CPU autofocus and manual-focus AI and AI-S Nikon F-mount lenses (including an electronic rangefinder with three-segment viewfinder manual focus indication) as well as tilt-shift PC-E lenses. Inevitably in a review of this length we can only touch on our own personal highlights, and suffice to say, lack of angle adjustable LCD aside, there is plenty of scope to get as much out of this camera as creative imagination will allow. Naturally, we get HDMI output for hooking the camera up directly to a flat panel TV or monitor and this is hidden under a chunky rubber flat at the side where standard AV out and USB connections also lurk, along with a port for external (stereo) microphone attachment for budding videographers. Fujifilm's newest camera aims to bring modern AF, improved sensor stabilization and video recording technology into the medium format realm. Other accessories from Nikon and third parties, including protective cases and bags, eyepiece adapters and correction lenses, and underwater housings.

And with Nikon’s new 2,016 pixel RGB metering sensor to enhance the effectiveness of the Scene Recognition System, plus High Speed Continuous shooting capability at 6FPS, you can be sure to capture incredibly accurate, high-quality images every time. Some 39 auto focus points and the by now standard inclusion of AF tracking – here the grandly christened 3D tracking (following a subject not just across the frame but from back to front of frame also) likewise make an appearance, and very competent they are too, though when shooting our friend’s celebrations with several people moving about the frame we were naturally inclined to switch to manual focusing and pick out our intended target ourselves. This newest Pocket model features a camera with a larger Type 1 sensor and a 2-inch rotatable touchscreen for vertical or horizontal framing. Clarity is such that we were able to use it to help determine whether our manual focusing was as sharp as it should be; useful as the inclination of any auto focus mechanism is to render simply whatever is nearest the sharpest, which is somewhat problematic in busier scenes. Increasing the dynamic range by use of Active D-Lighting or reducing the contrast settings (the default contrast is higher compared to previous Nikon DSLRs) aids when shooting JPEGs.
