Carry on like this for the remainder of the floor and utilize some blue printer tape to ensure the boards are tightly held together. When you have finished laying down the hardwood flooring, you need to leave it for a day to allow time for the glue to cure completely before you can move furniture over it or walk on it. When you have finished you will have stunning wooden floors that will last for many years. If your substrate is also wood, then you can choose to nail it down or use a combination of nailing and glue. The nail-down method is by far the cheapest and less labor-intensive method, but it runs a very high risk of creating joint gaps between the floorboards, which can result in a noisy and squeaky floor. However, the combination method of both nailing and gluing down the boards is far better than the nail-down method alone. Uneven subfloor: If the floor screed or concrete beneath your floating floor was bumpy or uneven when it dried, this will inevitably cause bouncy and creaky floors. The solution is as above, but it may be necessary to use a self-levelling compound when deciding how to level a floor. Once fixed, the boards can be relaid.

Still have questions? Here’s some common questions that come to mind when it comes to floorboards generally and my answers. Should you fill gaps in floorboards to improve insulation? Firstly, you should find the exact area of the noise to determine what causes the unwanted sound. If you have access to space beneath the floor, like crawl space, it will be much easier for you to eliminate the problem as you don’t need to lift the boards. Once you’ve found the joist, it’s a matter of working out the best fix. Shine the torchlight to see if there’s a gap between the top floor joist and underside of the subfloor. Any gap means trouble, even a small one. Step Three: Insert a shim into the gapWe suggest that you install a vapor barrier for your hardwood floor, as it will protect your flooring and prevent mildew and moisture from seeping into your wood. This can be in the form of a special type of glue. There are a number of things to consider before you can begin laying down a new floor. These include the type of substrate onto which you will be laying your flooring, the type of flooring you choose to use, the species of wood and finish of those wooden boards, as well as the pattern of the wood grain.

Once you get to the last board cut to size down their length allowing for your expansion gap. Add expansion wedges to tighten up the joints and allow the glue to set. When the glue has set remove all of your expansion wedges. Fit any beading, skirting or architrave to cover your expansion gaps and complete your oak floor fitting. Here you have to be very careful. Make sure the screws are short and not long enough to go through the top of the flooring. You can end up making the problem even worse if the screws are too long. You also need moisture and humidity readings of the concrete, as this will affect how the wood expands and contracts. If the readings are fairly high, you will need to ensure that you buy hardwood floor glues that have a vapor barrier to protect the wood. You also need to make sure that the substrate is completely clean and dry.SilentBoard caters to a wide range of applications, making it a versatile choice for various construction projects. Whether you're working on flat roofs, loft conversions, renovations, new builds, bathrooms, kitchens, wetrooms, or mezzanine flooring, SilentBoard delivers exceptional performance. It can be laid on metal, timber, and concrete structures, serving as a reliable base for any type of flooring. This glue is a urethane glue and is the best option on the market to use to bond your hardwood floors, particularly when used on concrete substrate. A significant advantage is the glue offers amazing moisture control, which means it can stop moisture from coming through the substrate and reaching the hardwood, thereby protecting the flooring. If the substrate is concrete, then you should glue down the wood flooring. However, if the substrate is wood, you have the option of gluing down or nailing down the wood flooring. Okay – so when it comes to putting the screws in screw in vertically, into the joists and below floor level. If you need to smooth down any uneven areas use a belt sander or an orbital sander to get the job done.
