Hotspot Slate Oil seals and protects tired looking slate, enhancing its natural beauty. It may slightly deepen the natural colour. The sealer repels dirt & water whilst allowing slate to breathe.

Wipe down the slate with teak oil to polish your hearth. Use a soft cloth to apply a thin layer of teak oil to the surface of the slate. Then, use a second clean cloth to remove any excess oil from the surface. [6] X Research source After the bubbles have stopped, you can top the stain with the paste you’ve created. Leave it for 5-10 minutes then wipe off with a clean cloth. 5. Use shaving cream on coloured groutUse a Trisodium Phosphate (TSP) mix on tougher stains. Make a cleaning paste out of TSP and water, carefully following the manufacturer’s instructions for use. Spread the paste onto a sponge and use that sponge to scrub the slate. Apply a thin layer of the water and peroxide mixture directly to the surface of the stain. Let the mixture sit for 5-10 minutes before proceeding. Slate Floor Stain Removal Tips

You might as well work on the surround while you’re cleaning the hearth. Mix warm water with a little washing-up liquid; if you’re cleaning a slate or granite hearth with soapy water, you can use the same solution. Dip a soft scrubbing brush in the mixture, then start cleaning the tiles. Try it on a corner first to make sure it won’t cause damage, though, especially if the tiles are very old. Rinse and dry afterwards. Some hearths are more susceptible to cleaning damage than others. Before trying any new cleaning method, test it on an inconspicuous corner of your hearth. If that stain still won’t budge it’s time to get the bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) out! Combine a pinch or two of bicarbonate of soda with a small amount of hydrogen peroxide.
