Now the best gets better and the weirdest gets weirder with this completely revised and updated second edition that includes 120 new entries that offer readers even more of the most unusual, curious, bizarre, and mysterious places on earth.

You won t be able to enter the 20-years-in-the-making and still abandoned tallest hotel in the world. Can you imagine living in Mongolia and having someone bring a library to you on the back of a camel? This book for younger readers introduces children to 100 weird-but-true places on earth — a wonderful and thrilling journey!

Odds are you won’t get past three pages without being amazed at something truly strange that you didn’t know existed. The only other minor gripes I have with this book is that the information for some of the entries is incorrect. My own travels, minimal as they've been, have taken me to a few of these, and I can personally attest to their worthiness for inclusion. Any place my husband alone cannot drive to in a day is a place we are likely to talk ourselves out of visiting. The illustrations are solid, the countries (and/or various states here in the US) highlighted are interesting and a majority of the off-the-beaten-path sites/stories are unique and definitely intriguing for us old farts and the kids, and the silly dad jokes and weak puns all pass muster.

but my kids just said, “Eew,” and moved on to salt mines in Poland, the Eiffel Towers secret apartment, buildings made out of glass bottles on Prince Edward Island, and the Wall of Dancing Dinos in Bolivia. The illustrations offer enough to intrigue but not necessarily give away all of the attributes each of these places offer. Normally I'd hold off on a review, but due to the unique structure of this book I feel comfortable giving my review without completing it. This is an exquisite book that shows the more interesting part of the world that those mainstream guidebooks don't go near, which is a shame as some of these places deserve a visit. It rocketed to the top of bestseller lists and has over 626,000 copies in print since its publication in late 2016. I guarantee it will be much more fulfilling than merely walking like well-behaved sheep along well-manicured routes led by well-spoken tour guides.

Thuras and Foer met in 2007, and soon discussed ideas for a different kind of atlas, featuring places not commonly found in guidebooks. Only a little disappointed with the quality of the paper, feels a bit newspaper like and is dull which doesn't do the pictures any credit.
