A high-strength edition of Admiral Vernon's Old J Spiced Rum, which features plenty of vanilla and a touch of lime peel flavours at its core. The thing about having something so high in alcohol (other then using it to flavour cherries) is that it can stand up to big flavours and balance perfectly. We’ll be using some tiki fire in the next cocktail so I’d recommend picking some up and trying this out.Old J Gold was the only spiced rum to be awarded the ultimate Master status at the 2016 Rum Master awards and is perfect with a mixer or in a cocktail. With this process in mind, we have emphasised Old J’s tradition of bold, innovative flavours into a classic rum. Now I’m going to share those serves with you to recreate yourself and hopefully inspire some of your own Old J creations. Using the same pot-still, this pure, premium rum is crafted in the British Virgin Islands; aged in oak barrels between 12 and 24 months. This didn’t go down so well with the fleet, and to appease complaints that followed Vernon suggested the addition of limes and sugar to improve the drink - he became an accidental mixologist, and became known as Old Grog.

Tiki Fire is based on the same recipe as the original spiced Old J, but is bottled at an intense 75. Old J is now available in sixunique varieties, with the same blended base spirit used throughout—except for in Old J Gold, which uses a British Virgin Isles rum from a pot still.

We’ll also float more tiki fire on top of our cocktail so we can set the whole thing on fire then sprinkle over some cinnamon. With prominent notes of salted caramel, toffee and spices - it is a dark and moody rum, whilst maintaining a splash of Admiral Vernon’s trademark vanilla and Persian lime. Not as sweet or spicy as the original, but with a big whack of vanilla in the mix, it is the perfect spiced rum for real rum enthusiasts or people who like the idea of rum, but are not a fan of dark alternatives.
